Emmy Awards Fashion: All That Glitters…

Emmy Awards Fashion: All That Glitters...
I was surprised to see that metallic gowns were not that popular tonight, but fortunately they weren’t ignored either.

Christina Hendricks was one of the girl actresses to hit the carpet. The “Mad Men” star showcased her curvacious body in a custom design by Australian designer Johanna Johnson shimmering gown that featured a long train and very high center slit.

I made an audible growl when I saw that “Modern Family” star Julie Bowen had her hair in a low ponytail. She was wearing a fabulous silver lamé deep v-neck maco bead embroidered gown by Oscar de la Renta that was just begging for some red carpet bouncing luxurious curls. When you’re in such a sleek gown, don’t be afraid to add some volume to that hair! I wish I could have frozen time and ran to Los Angeles, pulled her hair loose and then ran back home to my computer to re-write this.

Anna Faris knows what’s up, she wore a deco metallic strapless gown from Reem Acra‘s spring 2011 ready-to-wear collection and left her goldie locks free flowing. I loved that she wore this dress, once the fall collections and then the resort looks come out, it’s very rare I get to see a spring dress from the current year this late in the game. Anna left out the belt that was paired with the dress for the presentation but I believe that was a wise choice.

Rachael Taylor, one of the stars from ABC’s “Charlie’s Angels” was another favorite of mine last night. I’m not a huge fan of pink but I thought she looked beautiful in this pale pink metallic placket strapless column Giorgio Armani dress. The Australian actress kept accessories simple but I really love her new sleek bob hair cut, it made her look seem somewhat effortlessly glam.

Julianna Margulies also selected a Giorgio Armani metallic white gown from his Armani Privé collection, which seems to be a play on his spring 2011 couture line. With Julianna’s dark hair and fair complexion, she had a very “snow white” look going on which kind of made her the princess of the ball. Her look is already getting mixed reviews but I’m just pleased to see her in something I’m not use to. I think she pulled it off.

Jennifer Carpenter must have really been feeling glamorous in her Tony Ward Couture hand-sewn embroidered gown with a high thigh-slit and all over jewel embellishments. I love the cascading curls in her hair but I think she would have looked well-kempt if they had been pulled into a high ponytail.

Taraji P. Henson wore a Blumarine metallic slip dress and I think I saw her butt three times during red carpet coverage. The gown was way too sheer all over for me and that low side messy-bun thing she has going on didn’t fit the ensemble. She might have saved the look had she wore her hair loose and tumbling over the thin straps of the dress.

Elisabeth Moss arrived at the Emmys last night in a beautiful nude and gold embroidered long sleeve illusion gown by Marchesa. I love the gown so much, it’s gorgeous…which is probably why the “Mad Men” star needed to have it for her red carpet moment. To be honest, I don’t really love the hair but I can’t really focus on her look as a whole because I can only state at the dress and those illusion sleeves.
