Despite the chilly December weather, Rooney arrived at the theater wearing an incredible black silk crepe dress with sheer insets all over — including the fluttery short sleeves — from the Spring/Summer 2012 collection by Prabal Gurung! This was one of my favorite dresses from Prabal’s collection, so I was very excited to see its red carpet debut tonight.
I would have liked to have seen Rooney’s hair out for this look, but once again, she kept it tightly pulled into a ponytail. Just like she did in Sweden, Rooney side parted her hair to avoid those super-short blunt bangs that are still growing out from her role in the movie. They worked for her Givenchy look, but I’m not so sure that would have been a grand idea tonight.
Aside from the fact that almost all of her red carpet pictures had her posing knock-kneed (it was pretty chilly) — the only other downside to the look was the shoes. Her mary-jane Christian Louboutin “Top Gamine” pumps would be great with a skinny pair of trousers, but this dress called for an exceptional style. My first choice would be the Nicholas Kirkwood for Prabal Gurung strappy mesh ankle wrap sandals seen on the catwalk, but even something similar would have been ideal.
Rooney finished off her look with the perfect shade of crimson red lips.
After the movie, Rooney joined her big sister Kate Mara at the after party where she bundled up a bit. The raven haired beauty got warm in a black coat modified from the Fall/Winter 2006 collection by Rodarte.
I adore that tulip-style folded skirt and wrists!
