One of my favorite trends of 2011, that I hope will carry on into the new year, would definitely be colorful denim! Joe’s Jeans, J Brand, Blank Denim, Ksubi, AG Adriano Goldschmied, and Rag & Bone, were only some of the casual brands that released a wide variety of Crayola-inspired jeans and shorts.
Don’t be afraid to try it! You can instantly brighten up your basics (ie: a solid black top and matching shoes), or you can add some flare by picking a color out of your printed top and selecting a pair of jeans in the same shade. I can’t get enough of it therefore I’ve included some of my favorite looks below.
Before her pregnancy announcement, Hilary Duff was spotted rocking a killer pair of cuffed marigold Ksubi skinnies. She added this massive splash of color to her white tank and matching pumps! I love how she played with different colors by opting for a blush pink Balenciaga bag and a bright red lip.
ASHLEY GREENE in RAG & BONE and BLANK DENIM
“Twilight” star Ashley Greene decided to brighten up an otherwise all-black look, not once, but twice this year! On St. Patrick’s Day she was spotted wearing a pair of festive kelly green Rag & Bone high-rise skinnies that were tucked into her tall black Burberry boots. Her black cardigan, tee, bag, and sunglasses made it easy for all eyes to be on her legs.
Ashley was ready for fall even in the summer! She paired a cutout long-sleeve black top and matching platform pumps with a fiery pair of Blank Denim “The Colors Spray On” jeans. She stylishly broke up the look with a black and white houndstooth Ferragamo clutch.
LAUREN CONRAD in JOE’S JEANS
It was a casual night out for Lauren Conrad, but her outfit was anything but. With a comfy sweatshirt and basic strappy flat sandals, Lauren spiced up her look with a pair of Joe’s Jeans 55 Colours in a fun peony color!
It was all about J Brand‘s colorful collection in 2011 for Hayden Panettiere. The 22-year-old actress paired a tank top and her black Jimmy Choo boots this summer with both a violet and red pair of skinny jeans. Something tells me she has more than just two colors of these laying around.
VICTORIA JUSTICE in J BRAND
Nickelodeon star Victoria Justice added bright blue to the orange carpet at the LA premiere of “iParty with Victorious” last summer when she donned these skinny jeans. Strappy neutral sandals and a white blouse with a matching jacket finished off her look.
KIM KARDASHIAN in J BRAND
I loved Kim Kardashian‘s monochrome travel look consisting of a black leather jacket, white tee, a quilted Chanel bag, and to-die-for spiked Christian Louboutin “Lipspikes” boots. With that said, it was the electrifying blue skinny J Brand jeans she wore that I loved most!
Just because you go colorful doesn’t mean they have to be in-your-face. Sarah Jessica Parker played up the softer side of the trend with a pair of pale salmon Rag & Bone skinny jeans. The “I Don’t Know How She Does It” actress rocked these with all neutral pieces; a grey long-sleeve tee, black pointed toe pumps, and a white Ferragamo drawstring “Egla” bucket bag.
Cameron Diaz also loves these jeans! She wore them with a Stella McCartney khaki blazer over a white tank, beige strappy sandals, and a black Bottega Veneta hobo bag. Cam also owns them in a pretty mint green that she paired with dark tan strappy sandals, a white tee, and a cool sand-colored denim jacket.
RACHEL BILSON in AG ADRIANO GOLDSCHMIED
“Hart of Dixie” star Rachel Bilson took an ‘errand-running outfit’ from drab-to-fab with a pair of her magenta cropped jeans by AG Adriano Goldschmied. What would have been special about a white tank, matching slip on shoes, and a brown bag (despite how nice the Miu Miu bag is)? Nothing. Throw on a pair of colored jeans and you have an instant pick-me-up.
Who would have thought it was possible to actually make orange jeans look really good? Obviously Katie Holmes. Unless you’re pairing them with a black tee (hello, Halloween), it’s actually pretty easy to pull them off. Katie rocked a cayenne shade of Current/Elliott‘s “Stilletto” jean with a light blue denim shirt and brown leather ballet flats for a casual look last summer.
AMANDA SEYFRIED in JOE’S JEANS and NOBODY
Amanda Seyfried can’t enough of red! The 25-year-old actress wore a skinny pair of Joe’s Jeans in “Fiery Red” to a press conference for “In Time” in October. She made a sexy footwear choice for the vibrant jean with matching black, white, aqua, and red Aperlai pumps.
She was recently seen out and about running errands in an all-black look save for her “Cult Skinny” jeans by the Australian brand NOBODY. Black ballet flats and a loose dark tee couldn’t possibly be boring with those jeans.
JESSICA ALBA in NOBODY
Wearing denim in spring colors doesn’t limit you to only wearing them in the warmer seasons. Jessica Alba added a sunny feel to her winter wardrobe by pairing her yellow NOBODY straight leg jeans with a cozy earl grey-colored hooded poncho and tall distressed brown leather boots. I loved the balance of the outfit with her mauve eternity scarf and funky earrings that she could show off due to her messy bun hairstyle.
