2012 MTV Movie Awards – WISH LIST
Photos: ZimbioAt this point everyone should know what they’re wearing; don’t think of The Fashion Court: Wish List as something I’m predicting. It is what it is — a wish list. I could see these ladies in these looks, I’d like to — hey, I want to. Hopefully, I’m right on track and they’ll wear something in the style, color or designer.
I may be right on the ball and they could wear exactly what I’ve selected for them. Who knows!
Either way, I got so much positive feedback regarding the Cannes Film Festival Wish List that I was asked to do it again, so here you have it. I hope you enjoy!
Follow me on Twitter tonight at @TheFashionCourt and @CourtJustice as I will be following the red carpet looks as they happen! Check back here after the show for a complete run-down of all the stylish and not-so stylish outfits of the evening.
Photos: Zimbio; Style.comDONNA KARAN: As my favorite dress from the Fall 2012 collection, I’ve been waiting to see who would don this grey strapless dress that’s totally embroidered with black scattered sequins, with a sheer illusion opening at the hip. I think Kate has the body, look, style and sassy attitude to really bring it to life on the red carpet.
JULIEN MACDONALD: The Movie Awards have always been pretty low-key when it comes to Hollywood award shows. As you could tell from Kate’s last appearance in 2007 (pictured above), jumpsuits, shorts and pants are totally acceptable wardrobe choices. In fact — so are graphic t-shirts. I could see Kate opting for comfort and style with a sequined top, super-short black shorts and a pair of killer ankle boots. If she does, this shimmering ice blue top and layered short combo from the Spring 2012 collection by Julien Macdonald could be perfect!
EMILIO PUCCI: Of course, if Kate really wants to rock a sexy dress, there’s always this long-sleeve look from Pucci’s Fall 2012 collection. I love the design created with the crystal and sequins on this pale blue illusion dress. With a bit of lining, Kate would look incredible. I guess it all depends on her mood.
Photos: Zimbio; Style.comIf crystal beading is her look of choice, I found three that could be to her liking.
ELIE SAAB: I pretty much love every single look from Saab’s the Fall 2012 collection, but there are two that scream for Jessica to wear them. The 30-year-old actress is no stranger to a jumpsuit, so she might want to take it easy on the dresses tonight and select this longsleeve, plunging neck one-piece with a tailored trouser and completely embellished bodice.
Another favorite of mine would be the emerald green, fully embroidered cocktail dress. This color would look amazing with Jessica’s honey-highlighted mane and would fit her toned figured perfectly.
OSCAR DE LA RENTA: Jess loves to wear a lot of Oscar de la Renta, and he’s often one of her go-to designers when she’s hitting the red carpet. I could see her selecting this gorgeous embroidered tulle dress — sans jacket — for her presenting gig this evening. It’s pretty glam, but has a cool element that could work well for the ceremony.
Photos: FilmCelebs; Style.comCharlize hasn’t walked the Movie Awards carpet in a good three years, but I’m hoping we get a glimpse of her on it tonight and she doesn’t skip it like so many stars do.
She’s no stranger to opting for pants on the carpet, which I totally dig by the way, but I’d like to see her rock a hot dress tonight. If she does, here are three of my top choices.
ANTONIO BERARDI: Charlize has been wearing so much black and white lately. I think she’s on a monochrome kick that’s refusing to slow down. Why let it? She can embrace it with this layered, sleeveless cocktail dress from Berardi’s Fall 2012 collection. The beauty of it all is that she can still wear her new favorite Christian Louboutin “Decoupata” boots with it.
YVES SAINT LAURENT: With two bad-ass roles in the spotlight right now, I could see Charlize embracing both her film characters and natural tough personality with this belted chain mesh dress from YSL. She’d make a statement while staying comfortable and the long, slim cut would look killer on Charlize’s statuesque figure.
VERSACE: Another trend that Charlize takes to very well would be leather. In fact, she’s been in leather pants constantly lately. If she’s really feeling like vamping it up tonight, I could see her choosing this strapless cocktail dress from the Fall 2012 collection by Versace. It’s sexy and totally embellished with edgy studs bordering the panels throughout.
Photos: Zimbio; Style.comThe 21-year-old actress has a wide range when it comes to her style. We’ve seen her try her hand at ‘flashy’, ‘sexy’, ‘glam’, and ‘conservative’, but what will she opt for tonight?
MARIOS SCHWAB: I haven’t seen Jenn in a dress from Schwab since last year during awards season, when she was Oscar-nominated for her role in “Winter’s Bone”. I’d like to see her revisit the British designer’s collection and I think this sparkling look from the Fall 2012 collection could be it for her. The sheer bodice with aqua swirling elements look both edgy and sexy bouncing off glittering reflection from the skirt. If JLaw wore it to the MTVMA’s she’d probably take a little bit of length off and she’d definitely need to line the top.
CUSHNIE ET OCHS: While I know Jennifer might be interested in a Schwab dress, I’ve yet to see her in a design from Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs’ label Cushnie et Ochs. The rock ‘n roll vibe these ladies bring to the collection is was instantly attracted me to the label. Every season you can count on some leather, sexy pencil cuts and really fantastic detailing. I could see Jenn checking out their collection and maybe picking her MTVMA dress from the bunch.
In Pre-Fall 2012, there’s a slim red leather look with cutouts at the neck that she could opt for, but if she’s feeling like tight isn’t really the go-to tonight. If she’s in the mood for something a little less tight, check out the black number from Fall 2012 with the swinging skirt enriched with open silver zippers.
With her hair out and a great pair of heels, any one of these could really work.
Of course, she could ignore both designers and end up in Herve Leger.
Photos: Zimbio; Style.comThe 22-year-old actress attended last year wearing a pretty white Marchesa dress (pictured above), but after recently portraying a criminal in the recently filmed “The Bling Ring”, Emma might feel like bringing a touch of ‘danger’ into her otherwise ‘safe’ wardrobe.
CHANEL: Emma is your regular Chanel-devotee. You’ll often see her on the red carpet or in a magazine wearing one of Karl Lagerfeld’s designs, and I wouldn’t put it past Emma that she could get her hands on one of the newly released Resort 2013 looks. If she does a little browsing through the pale palette of dresses, she may want to give a little bit of extra attention to this pretty white and gold tank dress with adjustable metallic straps that match the ribbon-tied belt. It’s cool, short and perfect for the kick off of summer awards season!
BALMAIN: I’d love to see Emma rock another dress from Balmain. She does so once in a blue moon, but this strapless artistic mini from Fall 2012 would look amazing on her slim figure and would work with her super short haircut. A hot pair of black heels would be the perfect finish.
PRABAL GURUNG: At first glance, this all-black look from the Fall 2012 collection by Prabal Gurung may seem all wrong for Ms. Watson, but take a closer look. If you nix the thick black collar and remove the pants, you’ll end up with a fun, embroidered cap-sleeve dress with a full feathery mini skirt. The cut, length and style would be right up Emma’s alley and she could brighten it up with a bright heel that mixes in a bit of onyx for a complimenting pop of color.
Photos: Zimbio; Style.comJ. MENDEL: Emma loves to rock a bit of J. Mendel on the red carpet whenever possible. If she takes a peek into his Fall 2012 collection for her MTVMA look, I could see her eyes falling on this ivory and pale beige, asymmetric cocktail dress with metallic bronze detailing at the bodice. The newly blonde actress likes to play with a pale palette a lot, so it’s not much of a departure from her usual look.
LANVIN: She may like to wear a lot of dresses from certain designers at major events, but I don’t think there’s any collection that grabs her attention like one designed by Alber Elbaz. In fact, Emma might just be Lanvin ‘s biggest celeb fan as she opts for a look from the luxe label any chance she can. If she’s all about it tonight, I hope she pulls from the Pre-Fall 2012 line with this steel blue strapless dress that features a crisp ribbon effect. The elements are interesting, but the color would be beautiful with Emma’s new ‘do.
SACHIN + BABI: I haven’t seen Emma wear anything by Sachin + Babi in a long time, but old habits sometimes resurface and I’d like to see her revisit the designer label with this red dress. Like I said, Emma is a blonde now and it’s an MTV award show — red leather just works. Of course, this isn’t your regular leather LRD, there’s a sense of femininity to the otherwise edgy look in the form of a chiffon flounce skirt and wide waist band. Emma would look fantastic in it!
Photos: Zimbio; Style.comAll eyes are on “The Hunger Games” tonight, especially as it dukes it out with Twilight’s “Breaking Dawn – Part 1″. This is the first time most of the cast of the new franchise will be together since the Hollywood premiere in March, so I’m expecting them to go all out. When it comes to her MTV look — what should Elizabeth wear?
PRABAL GURUNG: I have no doubt that Elizabeth could pull of this white satin, bronze metallic and gold textured panel dress from the Fall 2012 collection by Prabal Gurung. It’s a fun and chic style that would be a great choice for her if she wants to add some pop without going off the top. A pair of black Walter Steiger heels to pick up the tone of the double strap belt would be perfect.
ANTONIO BERARDI: There’s no other dress from any Fall 2012 collection that I think would be more perfect for Elizabeth than this turquoise embellished layer dress by Berardi. — At least of the ones that she hasn’t worn already. — The color is vibrant and so eye-catching that it’s a dress she could be drawn to. The folded peplum and layered effects may be a bit intimating for some people, but we’re talking about the girl who just wore THIS to the MET Gala last month. Nothing is off limits for Liz. This is just the thing one would see in The Capital, am I right?
MULBERRY: She wore a bright orange Atelier Versace dress to the LA premiere of “The Hunger Games” a couple of months back and looked phenomenal in the citrus shade. Elizabeth could repeat the color tonight, and if she does, I’d like to see her in this lace and silk-satin combo dress from Mulberry. Again, this style may seem like a dangerous choice for her because it’s not the typical look one would see on the red carpet, but with a little ‘scissor happiness’ to the hem, a great ‘do and killer shoes — we could have a winner on our hands.
Photos: Zimbio; Style.comWhen it comes to the 28-year-old’s look tonight, it’s a very real possibly it could come down to a Lanvin or Christian Dior dress. Let’s face it, Mila loves her Lanvin — but, she’s also recently been named a new face for the Dior fashion house and might use this red carpet opportunity to show that off.
LANVIN: Black is often the go-to color for Mila, and if that’s the case tonight, I hope she wears this leather look from the Pre-Fall 2012 collection. The clear straps give off a strapless look, but overall the dress is a great base to play up the accessories. A color gemstone necklace to match her shoes would be a nice finish.
CHRISTIAN DIOR: There aren’t many dresses from Dior’s most recent collection that I would deem appropriate for this particular awards ceremony. The majority are calf-length floaty skirts or gowns, and though a lot of them are styles Mila would wear, I believe she’ll save them for another occasion. The only look I could see her donning would be this rusty maroon, silk-satin sleeveless dress with sheer panels at the bodice. One of the panels are totally embellished with sequins arranged in a pretty animal print. If Mila does wear it, she may want to chop a few inches off the hemline.
J. MENDEL: Sometimes you just have to go back to black, and with how much I adore this J. Mendel dress for Mila, I couldn’t ignore it for the list. If she doesn’t wear the petal cutout a-line mini for this awards ceremony, I hope she has it on stand-by for an upcoming appearance. Once again, a solid dress can make for some bold accessories.
Photos: Zimbio; Style.comDespite MTV’s error, Kristen will still be in attendance tonight with her “Snow White and the Huntsman” costars and she’s bound to captivate on the red carpet as a definite “Best Dressed” award nominee. The question is, what will she wear? Kristen has totally changed up her predicted look and embraced tailored jackets, trousers, and midi-lengths recently; it’s anyone’s guess.
As the new face of Balenciaga‘s latest fragrance, she may select a dress from the Fall 2012 collection. An altered version of this zebra printed dress perhaps? Last year Kristen wore an off-runway piece from Balmain (pictured above), if she doesn’t have some more hidden tricks up her sleeve like that tonight — well, I certainly have a few preferences for her.
VERSACE: An MTV award show is the perfect time to break out a metallic mini that’s waiting on the fashion front line. If Kristen has one, I hope it’s this look from the Fall 2012 collection by Versace. There are many fab bustier looks from the collection, but after seeing Kristen go the strapless route last year, I’d like for her to change up the silhouette a bit. The silver hardware and iridescent glitter patch at the asymmetric strap would also be the perfect element to keep the nude under-layer from washing out her fair complexion.
JASON WU: Okay, I’m going on a limb here, but when you want someone in a suit as much as I want Kristen in one – you’ll take the risk and put it on your wish list. Tonight isn’t all about “Twilight”, while they’re nominated for “Best Movie” and “Best Kiss”, I think the fact that Kristen is going there with her SWATH costars to present might take some pressure off of her. If that’s the case, she could opt for a relaxed look with this blue and black patterned shimmering pants suit from Wu.
I’m not too sure the black lace blouse would be her key choice for underneath, but perhaps a black bustier? I think the dark feel mixed with a striking blue would be a nice balance to getting Kristen in some color. A stellar pair of heels and a great hairstyle would take this look to another level.
DSQUARED2: I love the 1960s rock ‘n roll and go-go vibe that was presented in Pre-Fall 2012 collection. There are so many looks from it that I want Kristen to wear; from tuxedos to brightly colored tops and skirts. Although, when it comes to the dresses, the line focused more on mixing nude with black. I’m all about getting Kristen in some color, but really — how could one pass up wanting to see her in this cutout layered, color-block mini?
Like I said, she may be feeling at ease tonight — this is a way of taking the stylish yet comfortable route.

:O Elizabeth Banks surprised us all by wearing black!
Love the DSQUARED2 for Kristen, and the YVES SAINT LAURENT for Charlize.
all these picks are soo good!
Kristen Stewart totally got snubbed at the MTV Movie Awards this year for her role as Bella Swan in “Breaking Dawn: Part 1″ of the Twilight saga franchise finale.
You can’t be serious… I like K Stew and her style is evolving but her acting has never been something to celebrate (with a slight exception of Into the Wild and Adventureland). The fact that she has won once, let alone 3 years in a row, is a joke.
Oh, these picks are so good!
