2012 MuchMusic Video Awards: Red Carpet Breakdown
L-R: Selena Gomez, Carly Rae Jepsen | Photos: Selena Gomez News; mydaily.co.ukThe crowd was energetic, the celebrity attendees were excited and some of the clothing was… questionable. I did a little plucking and picked some of the ladies who stuck out to me for a bit of a fashion run-down of the night.

Selena Gomez seemed to be hell-bent on proving that there’s no such thing as ‘too short of a hemline’ when she arrive in this sparkling, sequin-embroidered, metallic micro-mini Roberto Cavalli dress. It’s good that there were straps — or else it would look like she was in a tube tunic — but the 19-year-old really could have added three more inches to that.
She finished off with wavy tresses, coral lips, gold hoop earrings and matching Jimmy Choo sandals.
During the show, Selena joined LMFAO on-stage (not pictured) in a total turnaround look from what we saw on the carpet. Sel slipped off her glittery band-aid of a frock and put on a white semi-sheer boyfriend shirt with some distressed denim shorts. Since she paired these with the same shoes as before, I’d say this look works for a casual day out but she needed a nice pair of evening trouser shorts.
“Call Me Maybe” singer Carly Rae Jepsen arrived in a shiny black halter neck dress from the Fall 2012 collection by Sachin + Babi, which featured dangerously high double front slits. While Carly complimented the dark look with a pair of black and bronze “Campisa” t-bar sandals from B Brian Atwood, she also added an appreciated pop of color with a multicolored crystal-encrusted “Betty Dee” necklace bib from the Man Repeller x DANNIJO “Mr. Dannijo” collection.
She finished off with smoky eyes and an, artfully done, mismatched manicure.
During one of her performances of the night, Carly Rae changed into a Valentine’s Day-appropriate mini dress. She wore the red “Heart Mesh Flippy” dress from Topshop with two white outlined hearts on the bust that matched her red leather, bow embroidered, pointed toe kitten pumps from Valentino.
L-R: Nelly Furtado, Shenae Grimes, Kelly Clarkson & Lucy Hale. | Photos: mydaily.co.uk; PLLFansOther than the dress, I like that she tried to add some color with an orange bracelet and matching nails, and I love-love her gold and black Giuseppe Zanotti snake-effect sandals. Nelly’s hair looked better than ever in cascading curls!
Shenae Grimes was thinking like Carly Rae Jepsen and also opted for double slits on her long black dress. The 22-year-old Toronto native slipped on a sheer-panel sleek design by designer Amanda Lew Kee, a fellow Canadian.
It was sassy, looked great on Shenae and fit the evening. She finished off with twisted ombré tresses and a pair of black pumps.
Sporting a new, bright blonde mane Kelly Clarkson performed during the MMVA in a black and light grey dress, with gold sheer long -sleeves and a bold metallic print all over the center light panel. Like Nelly, she also suffered a bit from a non-flattering cut, but it wasn’t so much her dress as it was her shoes. Because Kelly also has a curvier leg; between the just-above-the-knee hemline and metallic platform wedges that have an ankle strap, her legs were truncated remarkably.
A solo Lucy Hale represented her hit show “Pretty Little Liars” when she arrived in a cute burgundy mini dress. The 23-year-old actress showed off her legs in this sleeveless mini dress from the Fall 2012 collection by Peter Som, which featured a fun two-tone satin peplum. I’m wondering if it was supposed to be split down the center on purpose…
She finished off her look with a newly highlighted full wavy mane, taupe patent Brian Atwood “Maniac” pumps and a “Jean” nude mica clutch by Edie Parker. These bags are sure making their mark on the red carpet!
