Several months ago we were informed that Kristen Stewart had been tapped by designer label BALENCIAGA to front the advertisement campaign for their newest fragrance. Since then, Creative Director Nicolas Ghesquière and Kristen have talked a lot about the project, but other than an appearance of the duo at this year’s MET Gala and a few Balenciaga wardrobe moments as she promoted her films this spring — we haven’t gotten much else.

At least, until today!

The highly-awaited scent is called “Florabotanica“, and during an interview with WWD, Kristen spoke highly of the new scent.

“I’m very lucky that I like the fragrance, because I would have done anything with [Balenciaga designer Nicolas Ghesquière],” continued the 22-year-old. “And I’m a terrible liar.”

Stewart said she was relieved the first time she smelled Florabotanica.

“There is something natural about it,” explained Stewart. “It’s very alive. I think that as a young person wearing it — considering that I’ve never worn a scent — it kind of puts you on this level of, like, ‘Whoa, check me out.’”

If the title wasn’t enough to give you an idea of what this fragrance will smell like — simply think of flowers… with a bit of gritty danger. You’re intrigued, aren’t you?

“Florabotanica targets a younger consumer — 18-year-olds and up,” Catherine Walsh, senior vice president of American Fragrances for Coty Prestige, speaking of the scent to WWD.

“They may not know Cristóbal Balenciaga, but they certainly know Nicolas Ghesquière. In the U.S., this is very much a fashion brand.”

Nicolas was inspired by his Spring 2008 ready-to-wear collection when creating the new scent, the second major fragrance from the brand. “It’s more narrative, kind of a fantasy,” he said. “So when I thought about the fragrance and the character that would visit that garden, I thought Kristen could be the perfect beauty and the perfect personality to represent that.”

I guess that makes sense why the first ad from the campaign, photographed by Steven Meisel, finds Kristen clad in a bright, strong-shouldered orange botanical pocket dress from that particular collection (see below).

The duo also dipped into the Spring 2011 archives for her footwear — chunky flat glossed leather boots.

“Florabotanica” will begin as a one-month exclusive in September with Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman before expanding to Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale’s in October. The line will include 30-, 50 and 100-ml. eau de parfum sprays as well as body lotion and shower gel. It will retail from $65-$125.

She was just named the highest paid actress in Hollywood, and with her current film “Snow White and the Huntsman” dominating the box office, one successful trip to the Cannes Film Festival, a new film with Nick Cassavetes in the works and the upcoming release of the final film in the hit “Twilight” franchise, “Breaking Dawn: Part 2″.

I’d say this Balenciaga gig is the icing on a very sweet cake for Ms. Stewart!
