2012 MTV Video Music Awards – WISH LIST
Photo: ZimbioOh yeah, there will definitely be some “Twilight” festivities happening.
Considering the ceremony is less than 24-hours away, I feel like it was my fashionable duty to prepare for the red carpet by sharing some of my wish-listed style choices for the VMA attendees. Although they might not wear any of it, it’s still fun. Remember, they’re not really predictions — it’s The Fashion Court: WISH LIST . But, if someone does wear what I listed…it was totally due to my ability to see the future. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.
Make sure you’re following me at @courtjustice and @TheFashionCourt so that you don’t miss my live-tweets of the red carpet looks! My complete review run-downs will be posted to TheFashionCourt.com after the doors close and the show begins!

The full-skirt silhouette would fit amazingly well on her long and lean frame, and the glittering embellishments would look beautiful on her while totally fitting her style. Whether her hair is up or down, straight or curly, bangs or no bangs — this one is for her.
ZUHAIR MURAD: Sometimes Taylor likes to go full-on-glam and slip on a show-stopping gown. Who remembers her GRAMMY Awards moment and that amazing white-and-gold gown from a Country music ceremony earlier this year? Both were stunners, and should she go that route again — I can’t think of a better dress for her than this turquoise beaded gown by Zuhair Murad. Tay-Tay is also growing up, so I’m all about her showing a bit of her sassy side with these sheer spiral cut-outs.
MARKUS LUPFER: Taylor’s new single “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” is a far cry from the music we know her by. It’s totally ‘pop princess’, right? Well, staying on track with her new sound — maybe it’s time for a new look? With that said, I’d like to see Taylor totally change it up and surprise us all by wearing something like this red metallic short sleeve pleated mini dress by Markus Lupfer. Throw in pin-straight locks, siren-red lips, those black booties and maybe a cute little black bowler cap tipped off the back of her head. I can see it, can you?
Photos: Zimbio; Zuhair Murad; Alexandre Vauthier; Style.comZUHAIR MURAD: I would love to see Rihanna step out in this black beaded illusion dress from the Fall/Winter 2011 haute-couture collection by Zuhair Murad. Though it’s a little older than all of the couture dresses taking over the red carpet right now, I don’t think that would stop her from breaking it out. It’s sexy, it’s dazzling…and that thigh slit? Oh, come on. She needs it.
ALEXANDRE VAUTHIER: Whether Rihanna wears this crystal-embellished taupe mini dress from Alexandre Vauthier‘s Fall 2012 haute-couture collection tomorrow or not, she needs to wear it at some point before this year is through. As one of my favorite couture collections lately, I had such trouble narrowing down looks for her. Everything is totally all sexy, and I need some of Hollywood’s hottest to scoop some of it up. I think Rihanna should kick things off with this one and set an example.
DIOR: Everyone is talking about Raf Simon’s first collection as the new Creative Director of Dior. If Rihanna should turn to him when choosing her VMA outfit, I’d like to see her go with this strapless black jumpsuit. It’s sleek, chic and the metallic embellished flap at the strapless bodice is the pièce de résistance.
I’m sure she could find some bad-ass heels for this too.
Photos: Zimbio; Style.comALEXANDER McQUEEN: I’m practically obsessed with this gold strapless jumpsuit from the Alexander McQueen Resort 2013 collection, but who wouldn’t be? I mean, those colorful patterns are striking and that black chain leather belt ties it all together. I feel like P!NK has the right edgy attitude to pull it off. She’d probably throw in some black pumps, but hey, they will match the belt just like the sparks of fuchsia will compliment her hair.
EMILIO PUCCI: Having sported a cut-out black LBD recently, I could see P!NK being attracted to this slashed black crepe-and-sheer high neck long sleeve dress from the Fall/Winter 2012 collection by Emilio Pucci. Maybe she could pair it with some hot pink heels and some spiked out jewelry.
Photos: Zimbio; Style.comOSCAR DE LA RENTA: As one of Nicki’s favorite fashion labels that she’s recently worn on numerous occasions, I could see her turning to Mr. De la Renta for her VMA dress. He might even custom make it for her! If he doesn’t, I wouldn’t be surprised if Nicki gave this ballerina-styled baby blue frosted cocktail dress from the Fall/Winter 2012 collection a try. The bows and sparkling embellishments are appropriate for the evening, and the ostrich feather embroidery paired with the frothy tulle skirt are whimsical enough for her personal style.
JEAN PAUL GAULTIER: If Nicki is feeling more up to the theatrics of the evening, then I think she should reach out to Jean Paul Gaultier for one of his top-hat ensembles from his Fall/Winter 2012 haute-couture line. This asymmetric gold-black-and-blue strapless jumpsuit is my favorite. I adore the cage half-corset addition to the flap over bodice along with the rich velvet trousers. If she goes for it, I hope she doesn’t let the gold top hat, black gloves and glittering cane fall behind. She needs them to complete “the look”.
Photos: Zimbio; Style.comGUCCI: I’m absolutely-positively in love with this silk georgette gown from the Cruise 2013 collection by Gucci. The black slinky dress features tropical floral prints falling down the sides while strappy chain necklaces fall between the plunge opening of her halter top neckline. I think with the right body chain necklaces, earrings, and rings, Miley would rock this like nobody else!
ROBERTO CAVALLI: If she’s in the mood to show off her Pilate-toned legs, then fear not — I have another choice for her that’s just as good as the first! Miley swears by the designs of her pal Roberto Cavalli and she loves a good wild print, so why not opt for this black-and-white animal print slip mini dress from his Resort 2013 collection? Her favorite layered jewelry would play up the edginess of it along with a pair of black open toe ankle boots. Because, you can’t wear any other shoe with this after seeing how great it looks with those booties!
Photos: Zimbio; Style.comATELIER VERSACE: Last year Katy turned to Versace‘s haute-couture collection and wore an Gecia-inspired embellished mini dress complete with colorful sandals, a floral appliqué in her bright pink hair and… a pretty umbrella, of course. If Donatella should hook her up again this year with something from the Fall/Winter 2012 Atelier line, I sure hope it’s this strapless A-line printed mini. It’s short, sassy, bold and perfect for Miss Perry. She’ll definitely need some sky-high metallic heels for this baby!
BLUMARINE: Katy loves anything that glitters, is animal printed, and shows off her shoes. I took those three things into consideration and incorporated them into this pick of a gold sequin-embellished halter neck gown from Blumarine. This fabulous long dress has a glittering halterneck strap that’s connected to a gathered leopard print draped bust and features double thigh slits in the skirt for a major shoe moment. Duh.
Photos: Zimbio; NicolaFinetti.comFALGUNI & SHANE PEACOCK: Demi has become somewhat of a devoted fan to Falguni & Shane Peacock‘s designs and has worn something from their Spring/Summer 2012 runway collection on a few occasions this year alone. Should she do that again, I could see her selecting this blue sheer embellished mini dress with blue velvet slashes throughout it. It’s totally cool and right up her alley, no? I’d hope it would fit her a little longer though.
NICOLA FINETTI: I know Demi loves either really short dresses or straight up gowns, but if she was willing to try a longer hem-line, I’d like to see her ease into the change by trying something like this Nicola Finetti asymmetric cocktail dress. The black-and-white etched plaid pattern is cool, but I’m totally obsessed with the sheer insets at the waist and the eye-catching slanted flounce skirt. With the right hairstyle and heels, this could be a winner for Miss Lovato.
Photos: Zimbio; Alexandre VauthierALEXANDRE VAUTHIER: I mentioned it before when talking about Rihanna’s dress, but I’ll say it again — I love, love, love Alexandre Vauthier‘s Fall/Winter 2012 haute-couture collection, so you should have expected to see another dress or two from the line in this wish list. Beyoncé has been wearing mostly gowns lately, but if she uses the VMAs to return to her super-short minis then this single-sleeve white mini dress might be just the thing to cause major “jaw-droppage” (that’s not a word, by the way) for every on-looker — because that gold embellished neckline and slashed thigh design are seriously sexy.
Should she stick by pants for the night, another look from Vauthier’s line that I found very suitable for B was this gold lace peplum long-sleeve top and matching slim trousers. The color is really pretty and would look amazing against her honey-brunette tresses and caramel complexion. The plunging neckline and silhouette is also something she has tried a few times in the past, and obviously, pulled off flawlessly.
MARC BOUWER: Because I thought of all lengths when imaging her Video Music Awards outfit, I couldn’t pass up the thought that Beyoncé could turn to Marc Bouwer again for a dress. She recently wore a breath-taking white embellished gown from his Pre-Fall 2012 collection and looked sensational. I think she could really rock this drop waist longsleeve gown from the same collection. Besides, that diamond sparkling appliqué at the gathered waist is a stunner, right?
Photos: Zimbio; Style.comBecause the VMAs are more low-key than some of the other award shows, Rob has the option to really try anything. I normally would want to see him going for color, but since he’s been such a great sport about that lately… if I had to dress him for the VMAs — then I listed what I would select below, and guess what? None of my choices are something he wears a lot. Shocked? Me too.
ALEXANDER McQUEEN: Okay, you’re either scratching your head or totally drooling over this pattern suit from Alexander McQueen‘s Spring 2013 menswear line — but hear me out!! With Rob’s fearless attempt at style, I think he has the confidence to pull off a bold print and metallic pattern such as this. He also has an amazing head of shimmering dark golden tresses, so I feel like his brilliant mane would compliment the metal tones in this suave design. Just clear your mind and picture it.
He can do it, I know he can.
GIVENCHY: Once again, don’t freak out — I’m not envisioning him in this entire look from the Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci collection. It’s all about the jacket. Often times Robert will just wear a pair of dark trousers, a button-down shirt and a pair of black leather Converse sneakers — but, he’ll partnered all of that with really cool statement jacket. With that in mind, I could see him pulling off this graphic black bomber jacket.
MUGLER: If Mr. Pattinson opts for a classic black suit, I don’t think he should take it so seriously nor should he keep it traditional. This is the MTV Video Music Awards after all! I love this monochrome suit from the MUGLER Spring/Summer 2013 line, so I’d love to see Rob rock this from head-to-toe. The white points at the end of the blazer are so edgy and cool, and he should definitely leave a few buttons open at the white crewneck. Visualize.
So, what’s the verdict — are you digging my picks? What was your favorite?!
