Review: OPI ‘Neon Revolution’ Set (Limited Edition)

Product Review

Review: OPI 'Neon Revolution' Set (Limited Edition)Summer may not officially start until tomorrow, but that doesn’t mean you have to wait any longer to play with ultra-bright colors that are the hottest trend this season. Today I have a look at the new OPI “Neon Revolution” mini set for you, which features four limited edition neon nail lacquers, a neon white base coat, and the OPI Top Coat.

I have a fairly large polish collection, but I never realized how I severly lacked in neon colors, and that’s why I was so excited to give these a test spin. I tend not to purchase mini bottles of polish because I feel like it won’t last me long–so why bother? However, I was pleasantly surprised to see how much each bottle packs–I can certainly get a few manis out of this to last me straight through summertime.

On with it!

OPI recommends using the white as a base for the neon colors to really make them pop! I definitely suggest following those instructions because, not only does it make the neon pop, it also helps in cutting down the amount of coats you’ll need to apply as the neons are very sheer.

I started by applying my normal clear base coat and, once dry, a coat of the white base.

For (mostly) each neon shade, I used two even coats over the white for full opacity.

Review: OPI 'Neon Revolution' Set (Limited Edition)In the shade. L-R: Pink Outside the Box, The Time is Pow!, Don't Say It - Yellow It!, and Blue it Out of Proportion

Pink Outside the Box — What a perfect HOT pink! This is probably the one out of the whole bunch to easily match with your summer wardrobe as well. The formula was good, and I had zero problems at all with it evening out.

The Time is Pow! — I’m not sure if the picture can even capture the neon on this one. This is NEON … traffic cone, highlighter neon .. and I love it! I also think it goes great with the pink and yellow–again, the formula was great, and there weren’t any problems with application at all.

Don’t Say It — Yellow It! — I really liked this and, quite frankly, I didn’t think I would. Out of all of them, this one screams ‘summer’ to me. Formula wise: it was the easiest to apply and you could probably get away with only one coat over the white base.

Blue it Out of Proportion — When picking polish colors I tend to gravitate to blues of any shade, so it’s a bit shocking to say that this was my least favorite of the bunch. I don’t know if it’s that it just seemed like a normal royal blue to me, and not very neon, but there was something lackluster going on here. The formula was the worst out of the four. It took about four coats to really even out–and that was just on the smallest nail.

VERDICT: I think this mini set would be great to pick up and just have fun with. I don’t really have a favorite because I kind of love the idea of using them all at once as I did in the preview photos. The other upside about playing with the shades all at once is that the bottles will last even longer. How can it not if you’re only doing a finger or two with each color? It’s summertime–just for it!
