Review: OPI ‘Nordic’ Fall/Winter 2014 Collection

Product Review

Review: OPI Nordic Fall/Winter 2014 CollectionI can always count on OPI to bring a delicious assortment of rich and brilliant hued colors to help celebrate one of the most beautiful seasons. Last year we were taken on a cool trip to San Francisco but, this time around, the iconic nail polish brand wants you to ‘set your sights on the Northern Lights’ with the OPI Nordic Fall/Winter 2015 Collection. Inspired by the countries of Northern Europe, this 12 polish line features 2 shimmery shades, 9 cremes and 1 glittery stand-out.

I really enjoyed playing with this collection because a lot of the colors were quite obviously suited for the autumnal months whereas a few of them were traditional summer favorites that were muted for a nice transition through seasons.

Read on to find out my verdict on each one…

Review: OPI Nordic Fall/Winter 2014 CollectionHOW GREAT IS YOUR DANE
How Great Is Your Dane? — A dark chocolate brown … though it definitely has some strong gray tones to it. The formula was great, applied smooth and even with two coats.

Review: OPI Nordic Fall/Winter 2014 CollectionDO YOU HAVE THIS COLOR IN STOCK-HOLM?
Do You Have This Color In Stock-holm? — A bright purple-blue toned creme that I must say is a quite the beauty! It was so hard to get a photo to really show the true color as it looks more blue on camera and purple in person. The formula was a bit patchy for me on the first coat, but smoothed out fine by the second.

Review: OPI Nordic Fall/Winter 2014 CollectionSKATING ON THIN ICE-LAND
Skating On Thin Ice-land — Okay, this is just love in a bottle! I can’t get enough of vampy colors for the fall, and this is just right with a dark black cherry. To my disappointment, the formula was a bit streak-ish for me, but I just used three thin coats for coverage and continued to admire.

Review: OPI Nordic Fall/Winter 2014 CollectionMY VOICE IS A LITTLE NORSE
My Voice Is A Little Norse — This is a silver/holographic micro glitter in a bit of gray tinted base. This is packed with shimmer. I didn’t know if it would be wearable on its own, so I only tried it on the middle nail and it came out great. The other two have one coat over Skating On Thin Ice-land. Quite frankly though, I kind of love it on it’s own more.

Review: OPI Nordic Fall/Winter 2014 CollectionVIKING IN A VINTER VONDERLAND
Viking In A Vinter Vonderland — A deep, dark purple creme for the win! Seriously, I’m loving all the dramatic colors! This one was way easier formula-wise and only needed two coats for coverage.

Review: OPI Nordic Fall/Winter 2014 CollectionTHANK GLOGG IT'S FRIDAY
Thank Glogg It’s Friday! — I’d say this was a fuchsia/wine shimmer. I’m not much of ‘a pink girl’ in any shade, but the shimmer on this is very pretty. I used two coats for full coverage. If you love pink, you’ll love this.

Review: OPI Nordic Fall/Winter 2014 CollectionOPI WITH A NICE FINN-ISH
OPI With A Nice Finn-ish — This is a nice fuse of gold and bronze metallic. I like this a lot more on than I did in the bottle as it looked a bit too frosty. While applying, the brush strokes were a tricky, but as you can see–they don’t end up being very noticeable.

Review: OPI Nordic Fall/Winter 2014 CollectionICE-BERGERS AND FRIES
Ice-Bergers & Fries — Looks more like a milkshake, a nice milk chocolate one. I’m always looking for a good brown creme and this one is great. The application was very smooth with just two coats for coverage.

Review: OPI Nordic Fall/Winter 2014 CollectionGOING MY WAY OR NORWAY?
Going My Way or Norway? — This is very similar to Ice-Bergers & Fries, even formula-wise. I would say it’s more of a caramel brown; a great neutral color.

Review: OPI Nordic Fall/Winter 2014 CollectionMY DOGSLED IS A HYBRID
My Dogsled Is A Hybrid — A bit of mint-ish sea green creme. I’m not sure if this is a color I’d really jump for in the fall, but it is a great shade and formula. I’d definitely break it back out come spring.

Review: OPI Nordic Fall/Winter 2014 CollectionSUZI HAS A SWEDE TOOTH
Suzi Has A Swede Tooth — A true bubble-gum candied pink creme. To me, there’s nothing wrong with the color at all yet there isn’t anything unique about it either.. The formula was a bit patchy, but evened out after two coats.

Review: OPI Nordic Fall/Winter 2014 CollectionCANT AFJORD NOT TO
Can’t aFjörd Not To — This is a bright orange-coral, and it’s kind of wonderful. It’s a bit brighter on your nail than in the bottle, but that’s not a bad thing at all. The formula was smooth and easy to apply with two coats for coverage.

VERDICT: Overall, I was surprised with how much I liked some of these as they didn’t really call out to me in the bottles. I’d definitely recommend picking up Skating On Thin Ice-land, Can’t aFjörd Not To, Viking In A Vinter Vonderland, and My Voice Is A Little Norse.
