As a major movie buff and fashion aficionado, the Academy Awards are easily one of my favorite nights in fashion. There’s a huge list of stars expected to be there so, needless to say, I had to limit my list to under 30 people…and that was hard because I have a lot of red carpet wishes. From presenters like Lupita Nyong’o to performers (cough::Lady Gaga::cough) and nominated actresses–such as: Keira Knightley, Reese Witherspoon, Julianne Moore and Emma Stone, you have a lot to browse.
I hope you enjoy getting a glimpse of what I hope to see on Oscar night!
I invite you to follow me on the big night (Sunday, February 22nd) on Twitter [ @TheFashionCourt ] as I ID the celebrity style on the red carpet starting at 6pm EST! Remember to check back here at TheFashion-Court.com after the show starts for recaps, fashion details, and verdicts. You can also find Oscar style on Facebook.com/TheFashionCourt!
they’re simply my personal “wishes” of what I’d like to see on the red carpet.
DESIGNER PREDICTION: Prada
RUNWAY WISH: Lupita is one of those people who can truly pull off everything they wear so I imagine any gown she picks will be beautiful on her. Having said that, the Oscar winner will be presenting another woman with the award of ‘Best Supporting Actress’, and I’d like for her to wear something to remember. Lupita’s figure is so incredibly toned that I could see her being a total knockout in this strapless Valentino 2015 Sala Bianca Couture gown with embossed lettering and a long train. If you remember how well that red gown fit her at the 2014 Golden Globes, I think you’ll understand why this gown was my top pick.
DESIGNER PREDICTION: Lanvin
RUNWAY WISH: Meryl will more than likely wear a custom gown, but I still wanted to include her on my list because I had a wish for color and silhouette. The “Into the Woods” actress selected an off-the-shoulder silhouette last year, so I’d like for her to wear a v-neck this time around. I’d also like to see her in a deep purple like this divine Alberta Ferretti Pre-Fall 2015 plum gown.
DESIGNER PREDICTION: Naeem Khan or Max Azria Atelier
RUNWAY WISH: I had another dress in mind for Laura when I stumbled across this SAFiYAA Spring 2015 gown …and my jaw dropped. Not only is the soft buttery yellow so dreamy, but the single off-the-shoulder strap takes such a cool and unique spin on a trendy style that I feel it would be a chic memorable moment for the “Wild” nominee.
DESIGNER PREDICTION: J. Mendel or Pamella Roland
RUNWAY WISH: I selected this pretty Bibhu Mohapatra Spring 2015 gown for the “Boyhood” actress because Patricia has shown a preference toward dark colors this award season and, because she’s so petite, anything overwhelming on her frame wouldn’t be ideal. The billowy embellished sheer layer on this sleek black gown would look sensational. Fingers crossed.
DESIGNER PREDICTION: Giambattista Valli or Valentino
RUNWAY WISH: I imagine Keira will probably wear one of my designer predictions, but I brought back this Valentino 2015 Sala Bianca Couture dress from my Golden Globes Wish List because I still want “The Imitation Game” nominee to wear it. It’s gorgeous, wonderfully unique, and the empire cut would accommodate Keira’s pregnancy. I’ve never wanted a wish list pick to come true more than this one.
DESIGNER PREDICTION: Lanvin
RUNWAY WISH: The “Birdman” nominee has worn black to nearly every gala for award season, thus far–and in keeping with that theme, I’m wishing for this velvet cutout Valentino Spring 2015 Haute Couture beauty to be her Oscar gown. It’s dramatic with a cool rebellious take on classic glamour, and obviously Emma’s red hair and fair skin would really pop. The fact that it has wings on the bodice is just an added bonus to honor her movie. Just sayin’.
DESIGNER PREDICTION: Givenchy
RUNWAY WISH: I could list many reasons of why I selected this, but the straight truth is that I immediately envisioned Cate when I saw this royal blue and black asymmetric layered gown debut with the Armani Privé Spring 2015 Haute Couture collection. The silhouette is stunning, the embroidery is magical and the vivid shade of blue would pop against her complexion and light hair. I imagine we’ll see last year’s ‘Best Actress’ winner wearing this at some point because, simply put: when it’s right, it’s right.
DESIGNER PREDICTION: Christian Dior
RUNWAY WISH: Marion will undoubtedly wear a Dior gown on Oscar night, it’s just a matter of whether it will be from the runway or custom. There were a couple of dresses from the Spring 2015 Haute Couture collection that she would look nice in, but I’d like for the ‘Best Actress’ nominee to wear this embroidered pale blue and black silk bustier dress with a floral pattern. The tea length would certainly stand out amongst the expected array of floor sweepers.
DESIGNER PREDICTION: Alexander McQueen or Christian Dior
RUNWAY WISH: Despite a couple of misses, Rosamund has also had a good share of hits as she’s made her rounds on the award season circuit, and I hope we have another one on Oscar night. Because of her short hair, I’ve had high necklines mostly in mind for the “Gone Girl” nominee–and that’s why I’m wishing for this show-stopping Donna Karan asymmetric gown from the Fall 2015 Ready-to-Wear collection. Rosamund already wore a black halter dress at the BAFTAs this month, so I wouldn’t mind seeing this gown re-imagined in navy blue, although I prefer it in its original way.
DESIGNER PREDICTION: Christian Dior or Valentino
RUNWAY WISH: I’ve enjoyed nearly everything Felicity has worn at the several award ceremonies she’s attended the past few months, but with the Oscars being the grand finale–it’s time to end with a glamorous bang. The Best Actress nominee for “The Theory of Everything” tends to opt for very traditional silhouettes, which is why I have my fingers crossed for this truly elegant off-the-shoulder grey embroidered Elie Saab Spring 2015 Haute Couture gown. I can’t imagine any woman wearing it and not feeling (and looking) like she’s stepped right out of a fairytale.
DESIGNER PREDICTION: Giorgio Armani or Stella McCartney
RUNWAY WISH: As I’ve said before, I like when Reese wears sleek column gowns because it flatters her petite figure so well. I fell head over heels with this embroidered Armani Privé bustier black and navy gown from the Spring/Summer 2015 Haute Couture collection. The belt is one of the best parts, but I feel like it would still captivate without it. Here’s hoping that Reese, who is nominated for her role in “Wild”, and I are sharing the same thoughts on this beauty.
DESIGNER PREDICTION: Givenchy, Tom Ford or Balenciaga
RUNWAY WISH: It was very hard for me to find a dress that fit the vision I have for Julianne’s Oscar choice, but I came pretty close with this Elie Saab Fall 2014 Haute Couture plunging v-neck embroidered gown. My mind is set on the fact that she will wear a custom dress for the big night, but I hope the “Still Alice” nominee selects a silhouette somewhat resembling this striking (and sparkling) design in a deep shade of sapphire blue. Can you picture it? I can see it so clearly.
