The “Divergent” star put her own spin on the white tie dress code with a slinky cranberry Topshop gown featuring bold cut-outs that she complimented with equally sultry smoky eyes and a matching glossy pout.

CHANEL Celebrity Makeup Artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua helped Zoë get ready for the night by giving her ‘a new version of a glamorous smoky eye.’

“The costume and the drama of the 30s inspired the look,” Kara explained. “Zoë wanted to focus on the eye, but give it a pop without being too dark. So we decided to actually use a red lipstick on the lid, worked in with taupe and reddish brown shadows to make the effect stand out from a regular smoky eye.”

Met Ball Beauty: Get Lupita Nyong’o’s “French Roll”

MET Ball Beauty: Get The Look - Lupita Nyong'oLupita Nyong’o‘s glittering emerald beaded PRADA dress wasn’t the only topic of fashionable discussion the following morning after this year’s Met Gala. People all over the world couldn’t stop chattering about the eggplant purple twisted ‘do that the Oscar winner surrounded with a Cartier emerald satin and diamond headband.

Ted Gibson–aka the hairstyling magician behind some of your favorite red carpet looks, has been working with the “12 Years A Slave” actress regularly and tells The Fashion Court how he helped Lupita achieve what he refers to as a ‘French roll meets American style’.

“This woman is so inspiring to me! After seeing her Prada dress and Cartier headpiece I knew I had to make her hair something special,”
Ted explained. “I love this French roll because it has a regal feel to it. To make the look modern I colored her hair in a purple hue to compliment the green feathers and stones in the dress.”

To achieve the look, Ted turned to the Ultimate Shine products from his signature beauty line that he then rubbed into Lupita’s hair. “As always, I finished off the look with holding spray to keep it all in place. Lupita proves that no matter your hair texture, color, or length – hair is art!”

Special thanks to Ted Gibson!
