The annual Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala is arguably the biggest fashion event of the year, and this time around, the fête honored the opening of the PUNK: Chaos to Couture exhibition with a punk-themed party. “Warm Bodies” actress TERESA PALMER hit the red carpet in a dress to match, which was custom-designed for her by Diane von Furstenberg.

Although the plunging neck gown and dazzling diamonds were much more on the glamorous side, the Australian beauty didn’t hold back when it came to her makeup and hair.

TRESemmé Celebrity Stylist JOHN D. gave Teresa’s long golden mane a mussed appearance before sharply braiding one side. It was a cool faux attempt at the trendy-yet-edgy half-shaved head look, which instantly gave her locks a toughened up twist. Makeup artist Mai Quynh, who has worked with Kristen many times before, was inspired by Kristen’s auburn hair and black-and-nude outfit, so she wanted to give her a dark eye—with a twist. “I wanted to change it up a little bit. Instead of using black, I gravitated toward warmer colors,” Mai explained. “I mixed a maroon and bronze eye shadow and layered them on her eye.” Although Mai wanted to leave a tough black out of the look, she did use it to line the inner rim of Kristen’s eyes. The 22-year-old star of “The Mortal Instruments” usually opts for a very feminine and youthful classic red carpet look, but Lily kept her cool and toughened up a black Mulberry pleated maxi dress with a long gold ear chain, a tousled shoulder-length dark red mane, a pout that was decked out in a lush burgundy color and a fun studded manicure.

It is shorter, choppy and very contemporary, so we wanted to leave it unkempt and kind of wild. Very unstructured. “Tousled textured hair is the look for Ashley. I cut her hair shoulder length a couple of weeks ago and clipped it to mostly one length with a little layering to create a slight bit of softness.

To get this tousled style for Ashley, I used Build It Blow Drying Agent on dry hair using my fingers twirling around until it was all dry. This creates a rock ‘n roll texture that isn’t considered pretty—just edgy, then I took a 1/2 inch iron all over the entire head to give it that “I’m too cool to care” vibe. | continue reading..
