Carly Rae Jepsen in DYANTHE | 2013 Billboard Music Awards

Carly Rae Jepsen in DYANTHE | 2013 Billboard Music AwardsPhotos: Zimbio; DYANTHE; Gio Diev
WHO: Carly Rae Jepsen
WHERE & WHEN: 2013 Billboard Music Awards on May 19, 2013.
WEARING: DYANTHE dress, Gio Diev shoes, Nancy Gonzalez clutch & Isharya jewelry.

MY VERDICT: For her first award show as a new redhead, Carly Rae rocked the Billboard Music Awards red blue carpet in a crazy tank dress made up of wild sheer and mesh panels. The “Tonight I’m Getting Over You” singer opted for the black dress by DYANTHE, from the Fall 2012 collection, which features a loose sheer chiffon sash hanging from the back of both sides.

I want to like it because I dig the concept and I generally like the dress, but I probably would have been more into it for Carly if it was customized to be floor length. Frankly, I actually would have even preferred the simple placement of a mesh panel over her belly button, because it’s distracting otherwise. | continue reading..

Jennifer Morrison in Kristian Aadnevik | 2013 Billboard Music Awards

Jennifer Morrison in Kristian Aadnevik | 2013 Billboard Music AwardsPhotos: Zimbio; Kristian Aadnevik
WHO: Jennifer Morrison
WHERE & WHEN: 2013 Billboard Music Awards on May 19, 2013.
WEARING: Kristian Aadnevik dress, Edie Parker clutch, and jewelry from Amrapali & Le Vian.

MY VERDICT: It was almost as if “Once Upon a Time” star Jennifer Morrison was still riding off of her punked out mood from the MET Gala earlier this month when she turned up at this year’s Billboard Music Awards. The 34-year-old actress stepped out on the blue carpet wearing a very daring dress contraption by Kristian Aadnevik.

Jen wore a racy black bustier corset bodysuit from Aadnevik’s Fall 2013 collection with an attached sheer chiffon floor-length skirt. Due to the barely there fabric, I have no doubt that Jennifer was comfortable in the Las Vegas heat. I know I should probably say that her dress needed to be lined, but I think that would have taken away from the look severely. I only wish that the fabric of the skirt had been a little darker so that it didn’t come off as sheer, because otherwise it’s just one of those things that looks better on the runway. | continue reading..

Chloe Moretz in Fendi | 2013 Billboard Music Awards

Chloe Moretz in Fendi | 2013 Billboard Music AwardsPhotos: Zimbio; Style.com
WHO: Chloe Moretz
WHERE & WHEN: 2013 Billboard Music Awards on May 19, 2013.
WEARING: Fendi

MY VERDICT: I tend to look forward to seeing what Chloe wears because she always seems to have so much fun with her look. As a presenter for the Billboard Music Awards the focus wasn’t on the “Carrie” star, and therefore she got to choose her dress without too much pressure. The end result? A playful Fendi patchwork dress from the Spring 2013 collection.

First things first, I love that she shortened the dress to accommodate her petite figure—I also loved the addition of a wide black leather belt as it added some edge. I prefer the bottom design of the skirt to the top because of the cool shutter stripe pattern and muted colors, but overall I like it so much more on Chloe than I did on the runway.

As for her hair and makeup? Both were good–I wish she had done more with her hair.

Chloe completed her look with adorable black and white beaded Fendi sandals and a awesome dark green nail color.

Jennifer Nettles in EDITION by Georges Chakra | 2013 Billboard Music Awards

Jennifer Nettles in EDITION by Georges Chakra | 2013 Billboard Music AwardsPhotos: Zimbio; Georges Chakra
WHO: Jennifer Nettles
WHERE & WHEN: 2013 Billboard Music Awards on May 19, 2013.
WEARING: Edition by Georges Chakra dress, Casadei shoes, Swarovski clutch & Norman Silverman jewelry.

MY VERDICT: Jennifer shined brightly on the blue carpet for the Billboard Music Awards in a soft pink satin EDITION by Georges Chakra gown. The Sugarland singer selected this Spring 2013 scuba-cut design, which features a pretty gold chevron sequin pattern panel down the left side of her leg that’s framed by silver sequin detail traveling throughout the waist and back.

The dress is very pretty, but the problem with this kind of fabric is that there can be a lot of bunching that occurs pretty easily. I wish Jennifer had a smoother fit around the midsection because she looked so lovely in this gown. There’s also an extra panel of lining poking out through the sleeveless opening of her bodice that wasn’t seen on the model. I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be there or not, but I wish it wasn’t.

Jen wore her blonde tresses loosely swept up and pinned, before completing her look with a makeup palette made up of soft rose tones and an assortment of delicate, sparkling diamond Norman Silverman fine jewelry.

Hayden Panettiere in HALSTON Heritage | 2013 Billboard Music Awards

Hayden Panettiere in HALSTON Heritage | 2013 Billboard Music AwardsPhotos: Zimbio
WHO: Hayden Panettiere
WHERE & WHEN: 2013 Billboard Music Awards on May 19, 2013.
WEARING: HALSTON Heritage dress, Giuseppe Zanotti shoes, a Jimmy Choo clutch & David Yurman jewelry.

MY VERDICT: For a girl who parades around in sparkly dresses for her performances on the hit ABC show “Nashville” every week and often wears the same for major events, I have to say that I was pretty surprised to see Hayden in such a demure gown at the Billboard Music Awards. The 23-year-old petite actress arrived on the blue carpet wearing a black Halston Heritage halterneck column gown with tiered layers, from the Spring 2013 collection.

This dress was very pretty—especially on Hayden, but it almost felt too elegant for the music ceremony. Regardless, it was both unexpected and completely welcomed. I thought Hayden looked beautiful.

She kept her accessories on the minimal side opting for gold starburst earrings by David Yurman that matched her oval clutch. Soft makeup–with the exception of electric aqua lined eyes and cascading golden curls, which were pinned on the side and adorned with sparkling rhinestones helped provide the finishing touches.

Shania Twain in PAVONI by Mikael D. | 2013 Billboard Music Awards

Shania Twain in PAVONI | 2013 Billboard Music AwardsPhotos: Zimbio; PAVONI
WHO: Shania Twain
WHERE & WHEN: 2013 Billboard Music Awards on May 19, 2013.
WEARING: PAVONI by Mikael D. Collection

MY VERDICT: Shania looked absolutely stunning on the blue carpet for the Billboard Music Awards. Wearing possibly the most elegant dress of the night, Shania arrived in a sweet lavender silk strapless PAVONI by Mikael D. gown with a intricate draped effect across the bodice that traveled into a knot that sat low on the waist

The color was so pretty and spring-ready while the fit flattered Shania’s curves, especially the gathering at the skirt that transformed into a beautiful train. I’m not sure how recent this new hair color is for the Country singer, but I know that I’m loving the red tone and super long length. Shania’s cascading curls fell loosely down her back to compliment the ethereal look she was obviously going for–and succeeded.

Matching diamond cuffs on both wrists along with coordinating earrings and a mirrored clutch completed her look.

Ke$ha in Givenchy | 2013 Billboard Music Awards

Ke$ha in Givenchy | 2013 Billboard Music AwardsPhotos: Zimbio; Style.com
WHO: Ke$ha
WHERE & WHEN: 2013 Billboard Music Awards on May 19, 2013.
WEARING: Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci dress, and jewelry from Palladium & Jupiter Jewelry New York.

MY VERDICT: I honestly thought my eyes were playing tricks on me when I saw Ke$ha on the livestream during the red blue carpet arrivals for the Billboard Music Awards. The “Crazy Kids” singer topped my worst dressed list for last year due to her assortment of oddly put together printed ensembles, but she somehow managed to almost completely clean up her look.

Ke$ha wore a black silk ruffled Givenchy sleeveless dress, from the Spring 2013 collection that was originally presented with a single sleeve and partnered with pants on the runway. She wore her long blonde hair back in a sleek ponytail to accommodate the high neck design—with an equally high slit at the left thigh.

I don’t see that many ruffles and tight fabric around the neck being too flattering, or comfortable for that matter, on anyone—along with the shapeless area around the waist. That’s probably my biggest qualm with the look; it’s not so much how Ke$ha looks in it as it is the fact that I’m not a big fan of the dress. Because, quite frankly, she was styled pretty well here.

She accessorized with two Palladium rings that matched her delicate Jupiter Jewelry New York bangles and diamond earrings. This look was then complete with a subtle neutral makeup palette and nude ankle strap leather wedge sandals.

Emmy Rossum in Zuhair Murad | 2013 Billboard Music Awards

Emmy Rossum in Zuhair Murad | 2013 Billboard Music AwardsPhotos: Zimbio; Style.com
WHO: Emmy Rossum
WHERE & WHEN: 2013 Billboard Music Awards on May 19, 2013.
WEARING: Zuhair Murad

MY VERDICT: I don’t know how Emmy avoided looking like a sweaty mess in her gown under the sweltering Las Vegas sun, but the “Beautiful Creatures” actress looked effortlessly stunning in her beautiful Zuhair Murad gown for the Billboard Music Awards.

Emmy arrived on the blue carpet at the MGM Grand wearing the Fall 2013 long sleeve black velvet gown with a keyhole neckline and sheer polka-dot paneling throughout the sleeves, back, and sides of the skirt. I fell in love with this dress the first time I saw it, but if it were possible–Emmy just made me adore it even more. I love everything about it; from the hourglass shape it takes on to the tough balance of heavy fabric and light peek-a-boo panels.

Emmy completed her look with smouldering smoky eyes, ornate statement jewelry and a elegant up-do.

This is one of those dresses that ends up creating both a dramatic jaw-dropping entrance and an equally captivating exit.

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad Couture | 2013 Billboard Music Awards

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad Couture | 2013 Billboard Music AwardsPhotos: Zimbio; Zuhair Murad
WHO: Jennifer Lopez
WHERE & WHEN: 2013 Billboard Music Awards on May 19, 2013.
WEARING: Zuhair Murad Couture dress, Christian Louboutin shoes & Le Vian jewelry.

MY VERDICT: Jennifer Lopez wore head-to-toe gold to the Billboard Music Awards. Naturally. The “Live It Up” singer (which, bee-tee-dubbs, I’ve had that song on repeat all weekend) wowed on-lookers when she hit the blue carpet wearing a Zuhair Murad gold halter gown with a plunging neck and an intricate pattern of hand-beaded feathers that sporadically splatter into a sheer skirt. This daring dress comes from the designer’s Spring 2013 Haute Couture collection.

I wasn’t shocked, but I wasn’t let down either. This is what JLO does—and she does it well. There are few women that I feel could truly pull this gown off but, thankfully, she is one of them. In fact, Jen is the highest on the list.

She wore her long honey-highlighted tresses back off her neck before completing the look with bronze makeup, diamond jewelry, gold Christian Louboutin ankle strap pointed toe pumps, and a matching box clutch.

Taylor Swift in Zuhair Murad | 2013 Billboard Music Awards

WHO: Taylor Swift
WHERE & WHEN: 2013 Billboard Music Awards on May 19, 2013.
WEARING: Zuhair Murad dress, Jimmy Choo shoes and clutch & Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

MY VERDICT: Taylor made quite the sparkling arrival on the blue carpet for the Billboard Music Awards in a gorgeous Zuhair Murad long sleeve beaded mini dress. The Pre-Fall 2013 design includes a sexy sheer paneled back to match the little razor sharp insets all over the shattered pattern.

I certainly wouldn’t say this is something new from the “22″ singer. In fact, she pretty much wore this same concept at the American Music Awards last fall. But, having said that, she still looks great as this style generally works for her. This also happens to be one of those dresses that I imagine would look beautiful short or full length—it’s just that good. | continue reading..
