Jane Lynch in David Meister | 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards

Jane Lynch stuck with one of her favorite designers when it came to her gown for the 2012 Golden Globe Awards this past Sunday. The “Glee” actress arrived on the red carpet at the Beverly Hilton Hotel wearing a silk-chiffon halterneck gown by David Meister.

Like Meryl Streep, there were no eye-popping details — just a simple, lovely look. I’d rather see her in dresses like this than the overwhelming layered gowns she has worn in the past. | continue reading..

2011 Style Verdicts: Red Carpet Moments – The Innocent

2011 Style Verdicts: Red Carpet Moments - The InnocentEvery year there are many dresses that are beautiful, tons that are talked about, and a lot that get mixed reviews. It took a lot of nail biting to narrow down the top 15 that really stood out to me over the last year, but I think I picked some pretty ladies in beautiful gowns that got the red carpet treatment they deserved.

15. Jane Fonda in Emilio Pucci
I’ll kick this list off with Jane Fonda in this long-sleeve Emilio Pucci ivory dress at the Cannes Film Festival back in May. Someone needs to direct me to the fountain of youth and fitness that Jane is drinking from because she looks more amazing every year. This dress was originally seen with cutout details, but Jane added some modesty by filling in the gaps with lace. It was a fabulous fitting on her and just an all-around great moment. | continue reading..

2011 Style Verdicts: Red Carpet Moments – The Guilty

2011 Style Verdicts: Red Carpet Moments - The GuiltySometimes it’s easier to pick out what I didn’t like on the red carpet rather than what I loved. It seems as though more stars commit fashion crimes than not. I think I could have made it up to fifty with the amount of unlawful styles that occurred in 2011. Here’s the final fifteen…

15. Jennifer Lopez in Gucci
The pink overload that Jennifer Lopez had going on in head-to-toe Gucci at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala this year was just too much for me to look at. She’s fierce, we all know that — and she could definitely work a look from this collection — this just wasn’t her look. I appreciate that you can get away with more at this particular event than you can pretty much anywhere else, but I was really hoping for more from her. Thankfully her style was nearly flawless the rest of 2011. | continue reading..

5. Giuliana Rancic in Julia Clancy
E!’s Giuliana Rancic has had a difficult end of 2011 as she has been fighting breast cancer, but at the beginning of the year she was all smiles on the red carpet at the Golden Globe Awards. She looked stunning in a black strapless floor-length dress with a intricate pleated bodice designed by Julia Clancy.

Giuliana finished off her look with lighter additions including pale pink stone drop earrings with lacquered nails and a glossy lip to match! Her hair was styled high in a teased up-do with swept bangs that were slightly curled at the end.

I’m sending out best wishes for a better year for Giuliana and her family! Can’t wait to see her on the carpet again soon. | continue reading..

Emmy Awards Fashion: The Hits and Misses

Emmy Awards Fashion: The Hits and Misses

I felt like I had to comment on some of the dresses I didn’t expect to see tonight.

Gwyneth Paltrow surprised viewers wearing this spring 2012 embroidered Emilio Pucci midriff top and skirt. I like it. I felt like GP was channeling a little vintage Cher and it was so unconventional for the Emmys that it made it stand out — and not in a bad way. Of course Gwyneth would not only feel the need to make mouths drop, but she also got an advanced gown! Pucci won’t reveal their spring collection until later this month during Milan Fashion Week.

Gwyneth accessorized with Neil Lane jewelry and Roger Vivier sandals.

I love that Heidi Klum was supporting Christian Siriano in this one-of-a-kind dress and it looks great…from the waist up. The pleated, ruffle, mullet bottom is just bizarre. I don’t get it…I don’t want to get it. Heidi accessorized with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry and Christian Louboutin pumps.

Olivia Munn arrived wearing a gorgeous shade of green but when I got a better look I noticed it was another spring 2012 gown! Olivia wore a creation from Carolina Herrera‘s collection that just debuted at New York Fashion Week earlier this month. There’s nothing wrong with her look, I guess I just didn’t understand the rush to jump through the fall and resort collections to wear this.

Now this is what I’m talking about. Kristen Wiig has made her move into my “one to watch” category with this downright amazing ombré gown by Zac Posen. The shades of chocolate and caramel running through this gown just took my breath away. I never knew my favorite “Saturday Night Live” Target lady could raise the bar this high on the red carpet. | continue reading..

Emmy Awards Fashion: Pretty in Pink… and Coral

Emmy Awards Fashion: Pretty in Pink... and Coral

“Modern Family” star Sofia Vergara was so on point! Her coral one shoulder silk Vera Wang gown was drop-dead-gorgeous and it was only fitting that someone as beautiful as Sofia wear it for the ceremony tonight. I can’t imagine Vera had a better silhouette in mind for this design than what Sofia could provide. Her beautiful diamond and emerald Lorraine Schwartz earrings really complimented the color of the gown and the hair was just as glamorous as the rest of her. A+

Leave it up to Zooey Deschanel to bring a little quirkiness to the Emmys. Her Monique Lhuillier resort 2012 strapless rosy pink gown with a deep coral grosgrain bow belt was cute, but a little bit “too cute”. I’m so torn on this look, I want to love it but I think it was a little bit too cupcake-y for me. I don’t even know if that just made sense. Do you see how this look confuses me?

Rashida Jones was also feeling this girlie shade last night when she wore a blush silk chiffon strapless gown by Alberta Ferretti. It looks like she was playing it safe as there’s nothing really “stand out” about her look, but she still looked lovely. | continue reading..

Emmy Awards Fashion: All That Glitters…

Emmy Awards Fashion: All That Glitters...
I was surprised to see that metallic gowns were not that popular tonight, but fortunately they weren’t ignored either.

Christina Hendricks was one of the girl actresses to hit the carpet. The “Mad Men” star showcased her curvacious body in a custom design by Australian designer Johanna Johnson shimmering gown that featured a long train and very high center slit.

I made an audible growl when I saw that “Modern Family” star Julie Bowen had her hair in a low ponytail. She was wearing a fabulous silver lamé deep v-neck maco bead embroidered gown by Oscar de la Renta that was just begging for some red carpet bouncing luxurious curls. When you’re in such a sleek gown, don’t be afraid to add some volume to that hair! I wish I could have frozen time and ran to Los Angeles, pulled her hair loose and then ran back home to my computer to re-write this.

Anna Faris knows what’s up, she wore a deco metallic strapless gown from Reem Acra‘s spring 2011 ready-to-wear collection and left her goldie locks free flowing. I loved that she wore this dress, once the fall collections and then the resort looks come out, it’s very rare I get to see a spring dress from the current year this late in the game. Anna left out the belt that was paired with the dress for the presentation but I believe that was a wise choice.

Rachael Taylor, one of the stars from ABC’s “Charlie’s Angels” was another favorite of mine last night. I’m not a huge fan of pink but I thought she looked beautiful in this pale pink metallic placket strapless column Giorgio Armani dress. The Australian actress kept accessories simple but I really love her new sleek bob hair cut, it made her look seem somewhat effortlessly glam. | continue reading..

Emmy Awards Fashion: Regal In Purple

Emmy Awards Fashion: Regal In Purple

E! red carpet fashion correspondent Kelly Osbourne was the first ceremony attendee to arrive in this royal color when she arrived in a Gilles Mendel designed custom J. Mendel gown. The berry colored trumpet gown with asymmetric straps was a deep shade of wine-meets-deep mulberry and I adored it. It was a great style of Kelly but also a fabulous shade against her porcelain skin.

Our host for tonight and our favorite on-screen coach Jane Lynch wore her first look of the night when she walked the red carpet. The “Glee” star choose a custom David Meister aubergine chiffon with ruched bodice. It was a simple gown, but a much more elegant choice than I’m use to seeing on Jane. I really loved how she accessorized the gown with a slew of Lorraine Schwartz multicolored stone embellished bangles in various sizes which she matched to her diamond shaped earrings.

Julia Stiles also went the purple-route but chose a lighter shade of lilac in the form of a lace strapless gown from Georges Hobeika‘s fall 2011 haute couture collection. The dress was pretty but it didn’t hold my attention at all, I just kind of skipped over it…until now.

Another nice effort was from red carpet newbie Annie Ilonzeh who is a star of the upcoming ABC re-vamp of “Charlie’s Angels”. I had seen previews of the show but didn’t realize I had seen Annie previously on the soap opera “General Hospital” until tonight. Annie selected a very pretty eggplant gown by Romona Keveza but I didn’t like anything else. She’s a pretty girl with a great set of curls, so I just don’t understand the need of taming them with that headband.

Emmy Awards Fashion: All Black Everything

Emmy Awards Fashion: All Black Everything
Let’s cut to the chase, Evan Rachel Wood rocked my world tonight. ERW’s beaded black Elie Saab fall 2011 ready-to-wear gown was perfection for the 24-year-old “Mildred Pierce” star. She was the picture of old Hollywood glamour from her pinned waves, her dramatic make-up, the glamorous silhouette of the gown and the train that glided across the carpet as she moved. I more than loved it.

“True Blood” actress Anna Paquin skipped the red carpet and I only saw her behind a microphone stand briefly during the ceremony, so it wasn’t until the HBO after-party that I got to take in all that was her Alexander McQueen gown. I expected her to wear a McQueen design as she’s a huge fan and I wasn’t let down with the gorgeous gold embellishments at the halter straps and waistline that captured the black silk draped front and sleek skirt. Anna carried a matching McQueen skill clutch and wore Van Cleef & Arpels jewels.

Maria Menounos was a nice surprise when she arrived for red carpet coverage duty. The TV personality wore a sleek sleeveless black sequined gown from Emanuel Ungaro‘s fall 2011 ready-to-wear collection. It was simple yet dazzling.

English actress Lena Headey wore such an unconventional look tonight and I commend her for it! The “Game of Thrones” actress wore a longsleeve Alessandra Rich black gown which she saved from being dreary by adding a blast of color with hot pink calf hair “Maniac” pumps by Brian Atwood. Way to switch it up! | continue reading..

Emmy Awards Fashion: Feeling a Little Blue

Emmy Awards Fashion: Feeling a Little Blue
Just like red, blue was another popular gown choice tonight. First up is “Glee” actress Dianna Agron who surprised me wearing the sapphire silk-satin “Skylark” gown from Roksanda Ilincic‘s fall 2011 collection. The color was gorgeous, but I can’t help feeling like the gown was “too old” for Dianna. I would have preferred this dress on someone else.

Oh my, my. Emily Blunt might just be my big blue winner of the night because not only did she select an Elie Saab fall 2011 haute couture gown, she wore my favorite one from the collection. The midnight blue embroidered tulle gown with an embellished waist and dangerously cut neckline was breath-taking. It doesn’t even matter if she had skipped hair and make-up completely (which she thankfully didn’t) because that dress saves all.

Claire Danes looked gorgeous tonight in a blue georgette strapless sequin embroidered gown from Oscar de la Renta‘s resort 2012 collection. I love how the sequins are designed in this dress to almost look like shattering glass and as with Emily, Claire wore my favorite look from that collection. I wish you could see the cool satin platform Barbara Bui sandals Claire was wearing under all that pretty.

I’m pretty sure I wasn’t the only one waiting to see what Katie Holmes would wear on the red carpet tonight, I’m also sure I wasn’t the only one not shocked by the fact that she not only worn a solid color silk dress. Katie kept it simple in a Calvin Klein Collection cobalt gown with a silver thin belt. It wasn’t a stand-out look but I thought it suited Katie very well – simple and classy. Katie left her hair up in a high bun and wore a pair of Pierre Hardy sandals. | continue reading..
