Kara Hayward in Prabal Gurung | 2013 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards

Kara Hayward in Prabal Gurung | 2013 Critics' Choice Movie AwardsPhotos: Zimbio; Rupert Sanderson
WHO: Kara Hayward
WHERE & WHEN: 18th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, held at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica on January 10, 2013.
WEARING: Prabal Gurung dress, Rupert Sanderson shoes

MY VERDICT: Kara Hayward stepped out on the scarlet rug this past Thursday to celebrate her first award show of the year by wearing a colorful little dress by Prabal Gurung.  The 14-year old actress looked very mature, but her Spring 2013 vermillion wool crepe dress with a asymmetric chiffon blouson overlay didn’t age her.  Because of the solid style, Kara was able to have fun with her shoes—she selected black leather “Silver” sandals by Rupert Sanderson. | continue reading..

Eva Longoria in Monique Lhuillier | 2013 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards

WHO: Eva Longoria
WHERE & WHEN: 18th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, held at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica on January 10, 2013.
WEARING: Monique Lhuillier dress, Martin Katz jewelry

MY VERDICT: I didn’t expect to see Eva at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards on Thursday evening, but she graced the red carpet wearing a pretty gown by Monique Lhullier.  The former “Desperate Housewives” star selected the garnet 2-ply crepe tiered seamed gown with an open back, from the designer’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection.  I think I would have liked this more if Eva had worn her hair out, even if not completely.  She completed her look with a black clutch, Martin Katz cushion cut diamond stud earrings, and smoky eyes.

Kerry Bishe in Pamella Roland | 2013 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards

Kerry Bishe in Pamella Roland | 2013 Critics' Choice Movie AwardsPhotos: Zimbio; Swarovski
WHO: Kerry Bishe
WHERE & WHEN: 18th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, held at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica on January 10, 2013.
WEARING: Pamella Roland gown, Swarovski bag.

MY VERDICT: Kerry wore a beautiful bright red gown last night at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards.  The “Argo” actress arrived at Barker Hangar wearing a vibrant red silk chiffon evening gown by Pamella Roland. Without the long sleeves this would be a lovely gathered sweetheart gown, but there’s something about silhouette Pamella designed with the sheer sleeves being pulled into a v-neck that I just love so much.  It creates a look that we’re not using to seeing, which is always nice.

Kerry wore her ginger hair in loose ringlets before completing her look with black pumps and a Swarovski black “Power” clutch that matched her dress due to the red and raspberry crystal encrusted leopard pattern.

Helen Hunt in Philip Armstrong Atelier | 2013 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards

Helen Hunt in Philip Armstrong Atelier | 2013 Critics' Choice Movie AwardsPhotos: Zimbio; Philip Armstrong; Lauren Merkin
WHO: Helen Hunt
WHERE & WHEN: 18th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, held at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica on January 10, 2013.
WEARING: Philip Armstrong Atelier dress, Martin Katz Fine Jewelry & a Lauren Merkin clutch.

MY VERDICT: To think, I thought Helen Hunt in that navy dress last weekend was as good as it got with her—and then she had to go and “wow” the heck out of me last night wearing a gorgeous lace inset dress by Philip Armstrong.  The “Sessions” actress selected the “Roxanna” crimson stretch crepe column gown with crystal trimmed lace paneling at the shoulder, waist and back, which comes from the designer’s Atelier collection.  It fit her like a dream;  she was so elegant that when I recall all of the looks from the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards this year, I can’t help but see her as a stand-out favorite of mine.

I’m also reminded of the fact that I need to see more Armstrong’s designs on the red carpet, so I’m looking to her to make this happen for the duration of awards season.  Helen completed this look with Lauren Merkin‘s “Lucca” clutch in gold pearlized patent leather, and | continue reading..

Ian Somerhalder in Dolce & Gabbana | 2013 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards

Ian Somerhalder in Dolce & Gabbana | 2013 Critics' Choice Movie AwardsPhotos: Zimbio
WHO: Ian Somerhalder
WHERE & WHEN: 18th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, held at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica on January 10, 2013.
WEARING: Dolce & Gabbana

MY VERDICT: If it was possible for Ian Somerhalder to look better than he did at the People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday, he made it so the following night when “The Vampire Diaries” star walked the red carpet for the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards in Dolce & Gabbana.  His three-piece grey suit reminded me of what Robert Pattinson wore in Madrid a few months ago, and we all know how much I loved that look.  For Ian, instead of blues and reds to highlight his look, he went with a white shirt to brighten up the dark grey of the suit and a olive green tie that brought out his beautiful eye color.  I like how his brown suede shoes pulled the whole earth tone ensemble together, and how could I forget the pop of garnet red with his folded pocket square.  This might be one of my most favorite looks from Ian.

Eddie Redmayne in ACNE | 2013 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards

Eddie Redmayne in ACNE | 2013 Critics' Choice Movie AwardsPhotos: Zimbio
WHO: Eddie Redmayne
WHERE & WHEN: 18th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, held at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica on January 10, 2013.
WEARING: ACNE

MY VERDICT: There was quite an elegance about what Eddie wore last night for the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards. The “Les Misèrables” star, who has been wearing a lot of three certain designer labels lately, stepped out in a black suit by ACNE—which just so happened to include a luxe single-button velvet tuxedo jacket with satin lapels, thank you very much. I just love that he loves velvet so much. Instead of going all in like he did at the Les Miz premiere a few weeks ago, Eddie limited the plush fabric to just the jacket this time around. He then finished off the look with flat front trousers, a white dress shirt, a skinny black satin tie and shiny black lace up shoes. That white folded pocket square was a nice touch.

Bradley Cooper in Tom Ford | 2013 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards

WHO: Bradley Cooper
WHERE & WHEN: 18th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, held at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica on January 10, 2013.
WEARING: Tom Ford

MY VERDICT: Bradley sure knows how to wear a suit. The “Silver Linings Playbook” star hit the red carpet for the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards last night looking pretty suave in a dark grey peaked lapel suit by Tom Ford, which he paired with a white dress shirt, black silk long tie and a pair of shiny lace up shoes. It was nice to see him using less product in his growing mane that what he graced us with at the Palm Springs Film Festival a few days ago. That hair wasn’t cool, dude.

Grey looks really good on him. I just decided that. Brings out his eyes.

Clea DuVall in Tadashi Shoji | 2013 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards

Clea DuVall in Tadashi Shoji | 2013 Critics' Choice Movie AwardsPhotos: Zimbio; Tadashi Shoji
WHO: Clea DuVall
WHERE & WHEN: 18th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, held at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica on January 10, 2013.
WEARING: Tadashi Shoji dress and jewelry by Norman Silverman and IritDesign.

MY VERDICT: Clea opted for a bright white gown at the CCMAs last night.  The “Argo” actress looked beautiful in her ivory chiffon gown by Tadashi Shoji.  This Spring 2013 daring design features a plunging neckline and cutout details along the front and side.  I really liked the style on the runway, but with the lining hidden much more, I believe that it transformed into something even more beautiful on the red carpet.  Clea up-do was appreciated and I liked her subtle smoky eyes and delicate diamond stud earrings by Norman Silverman.  Additionally, Clea wore a IritDesign diamond ring to match. | continue reading..

Elle Fanning in Chanel | 2013 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards

Elle Fanning in Chanel | 2013 Critics' Choice Movie AwardsPhotos: Zimbio; Style.com; TookLookbook
WHO: Elle Fanning
WHERE & WHEN: 18th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, held at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica on January 10, 2013.
WEARING: Chanel dress, shoes, and jewelry—as well as Martin Katz.

MY VERDICT: Let’s face it, you’re never going to get something ordinary when it comes to Elle’s red carpet look. At only fourteen years old this girl takes more chances than half of Hollywood, and I love her for it.  Last night she slipped into a Chanel white strapless dress with flower appliqués, from the Spring/Summer 2013 collection, which fell to her ankles.  I can’t say that I like the fit because the dress looks like a blanket, but Elle pulled it off. I wouldn’t try and change her interests, but this isn’t something I’d want her to wear—and I think it’s mostly due to the shoes. I just don’t like the shoes at all.  I think a sandal in the green color featured in the dress would have been a nice option. | continue reading..

Famke Janssen in John Galliano | 2013 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards

Famke Janssen in John Galliano | 2013 Critics' Choice Movie AwardsPhotos: Zimbio; Style.com
WHO: Famke Janssen
WHERE & WHEN: 18th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, held at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica on January 10, 2013.
WEARING: John Galliano dress

MY VERDICT: This appears to be one of those situations where the dress looked better on the runway.  Although the petrol blue sequin embroidered waterfall design is lovely, I don’t think the John Galliano silk-chiffon dress translated well on the red carpet. I guess there’s the whole “movement” factor to consider as it didn’t hide the big sheer area at the stomach; not to forget the fact that there wasn’t any drama with the accessories, hair or makeup.  I mean, I didn’t want to see Famke arrive with over-the-top smoky eyes and sheer gloves—I’m just sayin’.  Dress aside, I adore her green, onyx-black and diamond jewelry assortment.
