MY VERDICT: There’s never a dull fashion moment when Zoe Saldana is around. There are times when she’s a risk-taker, and then the next thing you know she’s opting for pure, classic elegance. That’s exactly what happened at the Cannes Film Festival today where Zoe opted for a playful polka-dot skirt, colorblock top and colorful pumps at the photocall for her movie “Blood Ties”—only to hit the red carpet for the premiere in a lovely embroidered Valentino gown.

Zoe wore the blue-grey silk chiffon full length dress from the Fall 2013 collection with brocade embroidery throughout the sheer overlay and thick white panel straps. The design of the gown is refreshingly unique even though the silhouette is timeless.

She wore her long brunette tresses only partially gathered in the back, which showcased her David Yurman pear-shaped drop earrings. A red matte lip was Zoe’s beauty choice for the second time today.

MY VERDICT: Christina joined Pitbull on the Billboard Music Awards stage to perform their hit single “Feel This Moment”, it was also the perfect opportunity for Xtina to debut her newly toned physique. The singer looked great in a black Hervé Léger by Max Azria “Sabine” a-line skirt that she partnered with a Versace long sleeve cardigan top.

The silhouette was flattering and showcased her curves in the best light—and I like how Christina’s Versace belt with micro-fringe added a little flavor to the otherwise simple outfit. | continue reading..

WHO: Jennifer Lopez
WHERE & WHEN: 2013 Billboard Music Awards on May 19, 2013.

MY VERDICT: Jennifer Lopez wore head-to-toe gold to the Billboard Music Awards. Naturally. The “Live It Up” singer (which, bee-tee-dubbs, I’ve had that song on repeat all weekend) wowed on-lookers when she hit the blue carpet wearing a Zuhair Murad gold halter gown with a plunging neck and an intricate pattern of hand-beaded feathers that sporadically splatter into a sheer skirt. This daring dress comes from the designer’s Spring 2013 Haute Couture collection.

I wasn’t shocked, but I wasn’t let down either. This is what JLO does—and she does it well. There are few women that I feel could truly pull this gown off but, thankfully, she is one of them. In fact, Jen is the highest on the list.

She wore her long honey-highlighted tresses back off her neck before completing the look with bronze makeup, diamond jewelry, gold Christian Louboutin ankle strap pointed toe pumps, and a matching box clutch.

WHERE & WHEN: “Jimmy P. (Psychotherapy of a Plains Indian)” 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival Premiere on May 18, 2013.

MY VERDICT: Nieves took the red carpet by storm for the Cannes Film Festival premiere of “Jimmy P. (Psychotherapy of a Plains Indian)” in her custom Ralph & Russo gown. The statuqesque beauty posed in a raspberry organza strapless couture gown with an intense rosé gold panel at the left side. I love really dramatic dresses on the red carpet that also flatter the body, and that’s exactly what Nieves presented here. The design was so unique, and she looked stunning in it.

MY VERDICT: For her second day at the Cannes Film Festival, Zhang Ziyi sparkled during a daytime Un Certain Regard jury photocall wearing a little couture. Zhang donned a shortened version of the gorgeous Giambattista Valli jade green cocktail dress with shimmering beaded appliqués settled over a watercolor floral patterned hoop skirt, from the designer’s Fall 2012 Haute Couture collection. I don’t normally like to see dresses disrupted so severely, but it was a wise decision to take the length off this particular dress considering Zhang’s small frame. | continue reading..

WHERE & WHEN: “Peeples” Hollywood premiere on May 8, 2013.

MY VERDICT: After donning two brilliant purple looks this week, Kerry Washington kept in classic in black and white when she arrived at the Hollywood premiere of her new movie “Peeples” at the ArcLight theater. The 36-year-old actress flaunted her toned figure in a slinky silk-satin dress by Narciso Rodriguez, from the designer’s Fall 2013 collection.

I’ve never been much of a fan of the “mullet” style dresses, but I can’t deny that I like this on Kerry. I also find the white insets at the bust to be more flattering to the overall look rather than the sharp black and white contrast seen on the runway. | continue reading..

MY VERDICT: Hours before hitting the red carpet at the MET ball in a gorgeous Vera Wang gown, “Peeples” actress Kerry Washington promoted her new movie with an appearance on the “Late Show with David Letterman” where she rocked a Prabal Gurung cocktail number. Kerry wore my favorite plunging v-neck dress from the designer’s Pre-Fall 2013 collection, which featured a vibrant violet satin peplum sleeveless top that’s connected to a black silk-satin and organza pencil skirt with an attached floral printed apron panel.

Kerry passed on a solid black belt in favor of a few edgy embellishments. I guess she was already getting into the punk state of mind. | continue reading..

WHERE & WHEN: 2013 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala – PUNK: Chaos to Couture on May 6, 2013.

MY VERDICT: It was so hard for ladies to find a balance between “chaos” and “couture” at the MET gala this year, but I believe Kerry Washington was one of the few who made a great attempt. The “Scandal” actress looked absolutely stunning when she arrived on the red carpet wearing a custom-made violet floral and laser lace peplum gown by Vera Wang, which featured a black fishnet inset within the deep v-neckline and a matching tulle train. The dress alone had a dark glamour vibe that was only enhanced by Kerry’s daring long leather gloves.

This was certainly something new for Kerry, but I’ve never gotten the impression that she wasn’t willing to test new fashion waters. | continue reading..

WHERE & WHEN: 2013 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala – PUNK: Chaos to Couture on May 6, 2013.

MY VERDICT: I couldn’t imagine Blake missing the annual gala this year considering her new releationship with Gucci as the face of the Gucci Première women’s fragrance. The 25-year-old former “Gossip Girl” actress arrived on the red carpet wearing a dramatic Gucci Première pale green silk georgette strapless gown with silver and matte black feather motif embroideries. The smooth bodice highlighted Blake’s figure before the gown turned into heavy layers of black organza that cascaded into a full train.

Did Blake stick with the PUNK: Chaos to Couture theme? I don’t think so. However, this dress is a work of art and she looked beautiful wearing it. Having a eye-catching gown didn’t limit the things that Blake was willing to do with the rest of her look, and that’s why she opted for smoky eyes, long chain earrings from Lorraine Schwartz, and a long bubble binding ponytail that reminded me of Princess Jasmine from Disney’s “Aladdin”.

Overall, I found the choice to be absolutely perfect for the MET ball–just not this year.

WHO: Zoe Saldana
WHERE & WHEN: “Star Trek Into Darkness” German premiere on April 29, 2013.

MY VERDICT: Zoe stood out on the white carpet in bright pink as she joined her co-stars for the German premiere of their new film, “Star Trek Into Darkness”; the follow-up to 2009′s “Star Trek”, the widely successful motion picture based off the iconic television series. Selecting a look from the Pre-Fall 2013 collection by Balmain, Zoe rocked a long sleeve gold and pink embroidered metallic scale top tucked into a hot pink gathered tulip mini skirt.

I’m completely in love with the futuristic rock element of this design; not only was it perfect for the event, but it also complimented Zoe’s lean figure while highlighting her complexion.

I’m not exactly thrilled that she left out the embellished belt seen on the model, but the lack of accessory didn’t hurt the look for me either. | continue reading..
