She's certainly been making some noise over here in the states, but I was still shocked -- yet pleased, to know that the talented Jessie J was included in this years VH1 Divas concert event. The 23-year-old English R&B/pop-star arrived on the red carpet at the Hammerstein Ballroom last night for the "VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul" concert in a daring dress from Falguni & Shane Peacock. She's such a fashion risk-taker, so I wasn't surprised at all to see her in this black sheer long-sleeve dress from the Spring/Summer 2012 collection with gold and silver embroidered designs and open flap shoulder detail. To cover up personal areas, Jessie wore tight black shorts and a black bikini top underneath. I noticed in some photos that she was wearing combat boots with the look, and I'm going to assume that's because she's still taking it easy on her foot (she broke it a few months ago!). Even while knowing that, I'm kind of disappointed that the calf-length dress was altered with an almost curtain-like hem. She recently wore a pair of gold oxford lace-up shoes to an event, she could have even worn those and left the dress in its original form.
You can't have a diva concert and not have Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton! Last night at the taping of the "VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul" concert at Hammerstein Ballroom, the "Joyful Noise" co-stars took to the stage to perform a duet together. Looking glam in a deep shade of blue, Queen Latifah wore an Edition by Georges Chakra gown from the Fall/Winter 2011 collection that appeared to be modified from a double strap look into a one shouldered design. Georges Chakra is one of her go-to designers, and as usual, I think the dress looked great on her. I much prefer this version of the dress on her, and I love that sassy thigh slit!
Mary J. Blige, one of the queen divas of R&B, arrived for the taping of the "VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul" special last night at Hammerstein Ballroom looking amazing in a crystal-embellished sleeveless off-white gown from the Fall/Winter 2011 collection by Michael Kors. Mary looked down-right gorgeous in this dress! I love the fit on her, and check out that stunning gather-and-fall detail at the side which only enhanced how great this looked on her athletic figure.
As a big fan of Florence + the Machine, I was very excited to learn that Florence Welch would be taking part in the VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul concert last night. The red-headed English songstress arrived at the Hammerstein Ballroom wearing a nude long-sleeve silk dress from the Spring/Summer 2012 collection by Antonio Berardi with a high-low hem and high-neckline. The most eye-catching aspect of the dress would obviously be the absolutely breathtaking embellishments throughout the design. I would have been floored had she wore shoes brightly hued like the metallic green pair from the catwalk, but while Florence played it safe -- her nude point toe "Halte" pumps by Christian Louboutin were equally fabulous.
Kerry Washington makes a grand entrance as she attends the 8th Annual Keep A Child Alive Black Ball last night at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. First reaction? She's in a beautiful white stenciled Donna Karan dress from the Resort 2012 collection that I've been waiting to see on the red carpet. Second reaction? The dress is totally wearing her. There's so much creativity that went into this dress and it deserved to get some major limelight -- it did tonight -- just not in the way that I imagined.
