MY VERDICT: I was looking forward to seeing what Katy would wear at the gala this year as she had gushed about wanting to go “original punk” and picked out her dress a couple of months ago. The “Part of Me” singer arrived at the MET as the guest of Dolce & Gabbana designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana while wearing a head-to-toe ensemble from their Fall 2013 collection. I’m pretty certain that Katy’s dramatic royal rocker look was inspired by her latest fragrance “Killer Queen”, which she was promoting in New York just last week, and I found that pretty clever. The biggest fashion event of the year is finally here! The red carpet will be filled with all types of punk rock glam this Monday night for the 2013 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala where your favorite heavy-hitters in fashion, music, film and television will mingle at the stylish fête. Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci will be hosting the VOGUE soirèe that has been officially themed “PUNK: Chaos to Couture” to honor the latest exhibition at the mueseum.

From Gwyneth to Beyonce–Karlie to Joan–and KStew to Rooney Mara–they’ll all be there, and I can’t wait to see who wears what. I certainly have my ideal favorites and predictions, which you’ll find below in my biggest wish list yet! | continue reading..

WEARING: Thom Browne dress, Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet shoes, and jewelry from Chopard, Fenton-Fallon, Lorraine Schwartz & David Yurman.

MY VERDICT: While in New York City preparing for the annual MET Ball this upcoming Monday, Katy took the opportunity to promote her new fragrance “Killer Queen”. I can’t say that I’m surprised that the “Wide Awake” singer grabbed some inspiration from Marie Antoinette for her sneak preview event at the James B. Duke Mansion. Katy took a seat at her royal gold and crimson throne as she showed off a ‘killer’ red and white gingham strapless corset gown by Thom Browne, from the Fall 2013 collection, which featured a gorgeous rosette pattern that was complimented by eye-catching oversize beaded roses. I love the exaggerated detail at the hips, but it was really the glamorous raven ringlets and ruby accented jewelry that set the whole look off. There’s an element of ‘punk’ in this look that’s to the point of me wondering why she didn’t save this dress for the gala next week.

Katy finished with a pink-rose lip color and black “Dover” kid suede pumps by Alice + Olivia.

WHERE & WHEN: Nickelodeon’s 26th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards on March 23, 2013.
WEARING: Hervé Léger by Max Azria top and skirt, Christian Louboutin shoes, and jewelry from Anita Ko, Melinda Maria, Nikki Baker & EF Collection.

MY VERDICT: Katy can make one nervous about trying a crop top this season when she sets the bombshell bar so high!  For the second year in a row, the “Wide Awake” singer donned a belly-baring ensemble—and, once again, she rocked it.  Katy opted for something from the Herve Leger by Max Azria Pre-Fall 2013 collection; a colorful yellow, blue and orange printed crisscross back bandage top and a matching pencil skirt that’s bordered in black.  I appreciate the high-waist cut of the skirt because a crop bra top should not be paired with any bottom that starts below the navel unless you’re going to the gym.

As a true California girl, I dig how Katy played up the retro beach effect–right down to the sculpted jet-black side gathered ‘do. | continue reading..

WHERE & WHEN: 55th Annual Grammy Awards on February 10, 2013.
WEARING: Head-to-toe Gucci Cruise 2013 & Adeler jewelry.

MY VERDICT: Katy had a major va-va-voom moment when the hit the lipstick red carpet for the 55th annual Grammy Awards in a Gucci pale jade, light jersey long sleeve gown from the Resort 2013 collection, which featured beautiful floral embroidery along the neckline. The keyhole opening is supposed to be pretty slim, but the “Part of Me” singer was practically busting out.  I’m pretty sure that went against the issued dress code of “no visible underboob”.

I absolutely love this dress and there’s no doubt that the vivid color looks sensational on Katy—especially against her long dark locks. Although I don’t think showing a little cleavage is bad, there’s no denying it, you can’t appreciate the dress as much because we all know exactly where your eyes go to first.  Obviously it was intentional, but I still think Katy looks too stunning to only focus on one detail, well…two details. Just sayin’.  That being said, her figure is insane.  I need to go to the gym.

MY VERDICT: How stunning was Katy last night as she attended the Clive Davis party?  The 28-year-old singer looked beautiful in a sparkling pearl embellished long sleeve gown by Rafael Cennamo.  The dress was literally dripping pearls and crystal beading!  I don’t often see Katy in such a light color, but the cream-colored dress looked lovely against her warm complexion and black sculpted tresses.  It was such an ethereal moment for her.  What I really love about this dress is the fact that the pearls aren’t heavy throughout; they fall in a gradient effect with the larger details starting at the boatneck before fading below the waist. | continue reading..

The 2013 Grammy Awards–aka, the BIGGEST night in music–will soon be underway, and with that major red carpet comes a wish list of what I’d like to see some of your favorite stars of song wearing.  This is the first time I’ve created a list for this particular award show, and I have to say, I was pretty excited for it.  With some music-centered ceremonies, there are a lot of super short party dresses, but I feel like Grammy night leaves more room for glamorous gowns.  Think of it as the Oscars for music.

Maybe some of the ladies will wear something similar or exact to what I envision, or maybe they won’t. MY VERDICT: Katy shined bright in tangerine when she stepped out on the red carpet for the annual pre-Grammys MusiCares Person Of The Year Gala, which honored Bruce Springsteen.  The “Wide Awake” singer allowed for her raven black long curls to stand out while flaunting her famous curves in a high neck Alexander McQueen gown, from the Resort 2013 collection.  The smooth backless design features a glittering gorgeous multicolor crystal neckline, which dubs as a necklace.  Emily Blunt wore this back in October, and while I liked the dress on the actress, I was disappointed with the lack of the belt.  In Katy’s case, I’m actually glad she passed on it as I feel like it would have truncated her body considering her larger bust. | continue reading..

MY VERDICT: I love a good statement coat, and Katy’s certainly fits the bill.  The orange and black striped pattern is bold and funky, but it’s the button and double slanted pocket details paired with that beautiful piped layer collar that really stands out the most.  I prefer the black leather belt from the runway, but Katy’s brown accent works well.  She actually wore a a pretty embroidered dress from the same collection beneath the outerwear, but unfortunately, we only saw the pointed collar.  I wish we could have seen more of it—as well as her shoes of choice.

I liked the way she finished with a black hat, oversize sunglasses, diamond earrings, and a really cool Chanel iphone case.

MY VERDICT: I figured Katy would probably not take a ostentatious approach to her look last night at the People’s Choice Awards, considering she’s been wearing many elegant dresses lately.  That being said, I can’t get over how much this floral embroidered long-sleeve Valentino dress aged her.  Had she modified it by removing the sleeves, leaving her hair out and a funkier shoe–it might have been a bit more youthful.  Instead, Katy wore her hair up in a woven style with a gold Jennifer Behr headpiece.  Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think she looked terrible–I just don’t think this look works for her.
