The annual Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala is arguably the biggest fashion event of the year, and this time around, the fête honored the opening of the PUNK: Chaos to Couture exhibition with a punk-themed party. “Warm Bodies” actress TERESA PALMER hit the red carpet in a dress to match, which was custom-designed for her by Diane von Furstenberg.

Although the plunging neck gown and dazzling diamonds were much more on the glamorous side, the Australian beauty didn’t hold back when it came to her makeup and hair.

TRESemmé Celebrity Stylist JOHN D. gave Teresa’s long golden mane a mussed appearance before sharply braiding one side. It was a cool faux attempt at the trendy-yet-edgy half-shaved head look, which instantly gave her locks a toughened up twist. As for her makeup, JO BAKER gave Teresa bold “bad gal brows” that were complimented by a dewy complexion and glossy taupe lips.

If you’re digging this look, then you’re in luck. Teresa’s glam team gave The Fashion Court the scoop on how to recreate it. | continue reading..

For this year’s Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala–hosted by Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci, Moda Operandi creative director Lauren Santo Domingo, and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour–guests were asked to dress in their punk best in celebration of the opening of the Punk: Chaos to Couture exhibition.

Heads quickly turned with KRISTEN STEWART emerged onto the red carpet wearing a bold bordeaux jumpsuit by Stella McCartney that instantly set her apart from the other glamorously punkified attendees.

With every public appearance from the 23-year-old actress comes a makeup palette and hairstyle on-lookers immediately crave. Kristen worked with her mane man ADIR ABERGEL and one of her go-to makeup artists BEAU NELSON to ensure a solid punk look. The Fashion Court got the low-down on all of the details for you to try your hand at “punk beauty”–Kristen Stewart style! | continue reading..

Kerry Washington in Vera Wang | MET Gala 2013

Kerry Washington in Vera Wang | MET Gala 2013Photos: Zimbio; Christian Louboutin
WHO: Kerry Washington
WHERE & WHEN: 2013 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala – PUNK: Chaos to Couture on May 6, 2013.
WEARING: Vera Wang dress, Christian Louboutin shoes

MY VERDICT: It was so hard for ladies to find a balance between “chaos” and “couture” at the MET gala this year, but I believe Kerry Washington was one of the few who made a great attempt. The “Scandal” actress looked absolutely stunning when she arrived on the red carpet wearing a custom-made violet floral and laser lace peplum gown by Vera Wang, which featured a black fishnet inset within the deep v-neckline and a matching tulle train. The dress alone had a dark glamour vibe that was only enhanced by Kerry’s daring long leather gloves.

This was certainly something new for Kerry, but I’ve never gotten the impression that she wasn’t willing to test new fashion waters. | continue reading..

Katie Holmes in Calvin Klein | MET Gala 2013

WHO: Katie Holmes
WHERE & WHEN: 2013 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala – PUNK: Chaos to Couture on May 6, 2013.
WEARING: Calvin Klein Collection

MY VERDICT: I’m not sure where the “punk” was in all of this, but Katie Holmes was a guest at this year’s New York City MET Ball where she hit the red carpet wearing this custom-made white halterneck Calvin Klein Collection gown. Now, judging by her gushing during the live stream interview of the red carpet arrivals, Katie obviously loves the gown Creative Director Francisco Costa designed for her—and with good reason, it’s a beautiful dress.

Considering the dramatic trans and solid canvas, I think Katie could have done more to stick with the PUNK: Chaos To Couture theme, but–like many, she stuck by intense smoky eyes with nude lips, twisted hair, and dagger shaped diamond earrings.

Kate Bosworth in Balmain Atelier | MET Gala 2013

WHO: Kate Bosworth
WHERE & WHEN: 2013 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala – PUNK: Chaos to Couture on May 6, 2013.
WEARING: Balmain Atelier dress, Salvatore Ferragamo shoes

MY VERDICT: It seemed like Kate was paying homage to Jem and the Holograms rather than punk when she hit the MET Gala red carpet in a hot pink Balmain Atelier gentili lurex jacquard body-con mini dress. Don’t get me wrong–I love Jem and I think the “Black Rock” actress, who was the guest of designer Olivier Rousteing, look really cool in the dress. In fact, the style is inspired by the Fall 2013 collection that just so happens to be one of my favorite lines this season. | continue reading..

Marion Cotillard in Christian Dior Couture | MET Gala 2013

WHO: Marion Cotillard
WHERE & WHEN: 2013 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala – PUNK: Chaos to Couture on May 6, 2013.
WEARING: Head-to-toe Christian Dior Haute Couture

MY VERDICT: Hmm, I wasn’t expecting this. I didn’t think Marion would stick to the “punk” theme too closely, but I didn’t think she would ignore it completely. I think I may have psyched myself up with my wish list picks because a soft pastel strapless asymmetric cocktail dress was a major let-down. It’s funny because, on a normal day, I would probably love this Dior Haute Couture light pink, coral and yellow silk and tulle bustier cocktail dress on her. This just wasn’t the time nor place.

Marion tried to do something with her edgy by having it styled in angled bouncy curls. She finished off her look with red nails, soft makeup, a white clutch and a pair of houndstooth ankle strap pumps—both also by Dior.

Yep, no punk in sight. I dig her rose gold earrings though.

Elizabeth Banks in Atelier Versace | MET Gala 2013

WHO: Elizabeth Banks
WHERE & WHEN: 2013 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala – PUNK: Chaos to Couture on May 6, 2013.
WEARING: Atelier Versace dress, Brian Atwood shoes and clutch & Kara Ross jewelry.

MY VERDICT: I was looking forward to seeing what “Catching Fire” star Elizabeth Banks was going to wear the MET ball this year. I had hoped for a dress by Versace, and that’s what Liz ended up going for–although it wasn’t from the Fall 2013 collection that I thought we’d see a lot of, but from the Spring 2013 Atelier line.

Kate Beckinsale in Alberta Ferretti | MET Gala 2013

WHO: Kate Beckinsale
WHERE & WHEN: 2013 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala – PUNK: Chaos to Couture on May 6, 2013.
WEARING: Alberta Ferretti dress, Giuseppe Zanotti shoes, Edie Parker clutch & Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

MY VERDICT: Black was the obvious dress color choice for the punk themed MET Ball this year, but Kate Beckinsale opted for red to switch things up a little bit. The 39-year-old actress hit the scarlet carpet for the annual fashion soirée wearing a custom red strapless asymmetrical dress by Alberta Ferretti. I liked the angled drama of the hem and fold over detail at Kate’s waist.

She wore her long hair up in her favorite high-volume ponytail style; it’s something we see from her often, but the ‘do was needed as it showed off Kate’s electric diamond triple arrow statement earrings by Lorraine Schwartz–she also wore a ring to match! Sharp lined smoky eyes, a black Edie Parker “Jean” black box clutch and matching strappy Giuseppe Zanotti completed her look.

There were some rock ‘n roll elements here—zero punk. To be fair, I wouldn’t have expected her to wear a costume either.

Jennifer Lopez in Michael Kors | MET Gala 2013

WHO: Jennifer Lopez
WHERE & WHEN: 2013 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala – PUNK: Chaos to Couture on May 6, 2013.
WEARING: Michael Kors dress, Jimmy Choo shoes, and jewelry from Dana Rebecca Designs & Rona Pfeiffer.

MY VERDICT: JLo brought the drama! Leave it up to Jennifer to hear the words “punk theme” and show up in something that’s not really punk at all–but, will still cause a scene. Oh wait, maybe she actually hit the nail on the head. The “Live It Up” singer arrived wearing a custom black cheetah patterned, sequin-embroidered gown by Michael Kors with long sleeves and a daring open back. I liked the gradient effect of large and smaller embroideries as it showed off Jen’s figure rather than widening it.

She accessorized all in black, naturally, | continue reading..
