2013 Cannes Film Festival – WISH LIST

2013 Cannes Film Festival – WISH LISTThe countdown to Cannes 2013 is almost over! | Photo: Zimbio
OMG it’s that time of year again—the 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival kicks off tomorrow! It’s officially time to prepare yourself for gorgeous gowns, and let’s face it, questionable choices. Some of my favorite red carpet dresses have been debuted during the prestigious film festival, so I’m looking forward to seeing which repeat attendees will continue their “WOW” streak and who will end up surprising us all. In the meantime, I’ve compiled a list of dresses I hope to see on the stars who are expected to attend.

I have a bit of a soft spot for this particular wish list as the festival last year was the first event I ever did one for.

Follow along with me on Twitter [ @TheFashionCourt ] as I ID the celebrity style at Cannes for the next two weeks, and check back here at TheFashionCourt.com for all the photocall and premiere fashion recaps. | continue reading..

Mia Wasikowska in Christopher Kane | “Stoker” London Screening

Mia Wasikowska in Christopher Kane | 'Stoker' London ScreeningPhotos: Zimbio; Style.com
WHO: Mia Wasikowska
WHERE & WHEN: “Stoker” Special Screening in London on February 17, 2013.
WEARING: Christoper Kane dress, Jimmy Choo shoes

MY VERDICT: Mia hit the green carpet in a violet and black ensemble, which boldly consisted of an a-line velvet colorblock dress from the Pre-Fall 2013 collection by Christopher Kane. I love the style—especially the peter pan collar. It’s young and hip, but there’s also a ladylike rebellion about it that I dig. I can’t say that I’m loving Mia’s hair being swept up with her blunt bangs on display to give off a “bowl haircut” appearance, but I don’t mind the opaque tights and matching Jimmy Choo suede pumps. After all, it is February in London. That being said, I do think going sans tights with an ankle strap pump like the model would have been more fun. I’m just glad Mia didn’t wear purple shoes with those tights.

Mia Wasikowska joined her large assembled cast of “Lawless” tonight for the 65th Annual Cannes Film Festival premiere of their crime-drama film at Palais des Festivals.

The 22-year-old actress looked beautiful in a Fall 2012 plum textured silk cloqué deep v-neck gown by J. Mendel.

I usually have such a on-and-off relationship with Mia’s wardrobe — it’s usually off — but, thankfully, it was totally on for her first red carpet appearance at Cannes this year. | continue reading..

Mia Wasikowska in Prada | “Lawless” Photocall – 2012 Cannes Film Festival

Mia Wasikowska lit up the “Lawless” press conference and photocall today during the 68th Annual Cannes Film Festival wearing a super bright frock.

The 22-year-old Australian actress selected a pretty Aztec printed cap-sleeve dress by Prada made up of hot pink, orange, coffee, purple, white and coral tones. I love the simplistic a-line cut and the bold pattern; it was the perfect little number for an early press day with the glorious French Riviera backdrop. | continue reading..

Mia Wasikowska in Prada | 2012 MET Gala

Mia Wasikowska attended the MET Gala this year, which served as the opening soirèe for the “Schiaparelli And Prada: Impossible Conversations” exhibit.

The 22-year-old actress wore a raspberry cady silk short-sleeve gown by Prada with a black waist band and high neck collar that was enhanced with beautiful black crystal embroidery.

Let’s be real — I can’t be the only one who notices the totally obvious sweat stains seeping out from underneath her arms. I understand that ‘nervous or excited sweating’ happens to the best of us, but this is just so unfortunate.

Mia finished off her look with Prada accessories, including her heels and evening clutch.

Mia Wasikowska in Antonio Berardi | 2012 Vanity Fair Oscar Party

Mia Wasikowska arrived at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in a gown from the newly debuted Fall 2012 collection by Antonio Berardi.

The 22-year-old “Albert Nobbs” actress stepped out at Sunset Tower in this sleeveless dark grey gown with charcoal embroidery throughout and little folded peplum details at the hips.

It was a gown that kind of spoke for itself as Mia didn’t accessorize much at all. She kept the look bare, wore light make-up and brushed her short blonde locks back.

With such minimal effort put into this rest of her look, it actually worked in Mia’s favor to be the best ‘red carpet’ appearance she’s has had in quite a long time.

Mia Wasikowska in Elie Saab | “Albert Nobbs” NY Screening

Mia Wasikowska arrived at the Museum of Modern Art last night in New York City for the special screening of her movie “Albert Nobbs” — hosted by Giorgio Armani.

I’ve been less-than-enthused with some of Mia’s recent looks, but my interest was piqued when I saw photos of her in this Elie Saab dress from the Fall/Winter 2010 collection. The 22-year-old actress selected the demure black cap sleeve cocktail dress with a high neck and floral appliqué for the evening.

Lately, even when she’s gotten the dress right, something else has gone wrong. Sometimes it’s the shoes, but most of the time it’s the hair and make-up.  | continue reading..

It Was A Night of New York Style at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards

Rooney Mara, Amanda Seyfried, Olivia Wilde, Mia Wasikowska | 8th Annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund AwardsPhotos: Zimbio; (below) Style.com
Last night was an evening of style at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards at Skylight SOHO in New York City. For the eighth year, the stars and designers came out to celebrate fashion and give out awards to deserving U.S.-based designers while giving them a shot at a long career in the industry.

Among the attendees were Amanda Seyfried, Olivia Wilde, Rooney Mara, and Zoe Kravitz as they arrived with the designers of their dresses for the evening, which included Prabal Gurung and Alexander Wang.

Rooney Mara, still sporting her really awkward haircut for her role in “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”, wore a peach silk dress by Calvin Klein. The paleness of the Spring/Summer 2012 dress blends with her skin, and then her dark lipstick is a harsh contrast. Love Rooney, but all of this combined with the haircut is just making the look so hard to take seriously. To some, it may be “artsy” — but I just can’t get into it. Rooney is also wearing CK sandals. | continue reading..

Mia Wasikowska in Miu Miu | 2011 AFI FEST Premiere – “Shame”

On Wednesday night, Mia Wasikowska supported her former “Jane Eyre”  co-star Michael Fassbender at the red carpet screening of his film “Shame” held during the 2011 AFI FEST in Hollywood.

For the evening, Mia selected a burgundy duchesse seta dress by Miu Miu that she paired with Prada suede amarena platform pumps and a raso ardesia clutch.

Whoever was photographing her did a really bad job — her body looks so awkward in this. It’s shortened while other parts are longer and it’s throwing off the entire look of her outfit. Because of that — while I adore the color of this dress and the design, I’m not sure I think Mia really pulled it off.

My least favorite part of the whole look was – not only the lack of jewelry – but that curly flipped piece of hair.

I don’t understand this hairstyle.
