MY VERDICT: I may have had Naomi pegged for jewel-tone color at the Oscars this year, but the “Impossible” actress was thinking more along the lines of shimmering metals.  Naomi hit the garnet carpet for the ceremony, where she was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role, wearing a custom-made Armani Privé gown.  The form-fitting asymmetric design was enveloped in layered gunmetal grey sequins, and featured a single cap sleeve, a cutaway element on the opposite side, and a sexy low-dipping open back.

All in all, I thought the dress was cool—but something felt off, like it needed to either be strapless or cap-sleeved entirely. As for Naomi’s hair, she was one of the few stars who really did something with it and I appreciated that.  The loose swept back chignon was stunning, but I believe it would’ve been best with a much more regal gown.  It’s as if she was wearing two different looks.  Soft makeup and Neil Lane drop earrings helped provide the finishing touches.

It’s almost time for, arguably, the biggest award show of the year!   The 85th annual Academy Awards will be taking place in Hollywood in less than two days time, and while we wait with baited breath for who will take home the honors this year–let’s play with fashion!   We won’t know who’s wearing what until Sunday, but it’s always fun to dream up possibilities–isn’t it? Normally I don’t “predict” as much as I “wish”, but this time around, I believe it went hand-in-hand.

WHERE & WHEN: The Hollywood Reporter Nominees’ Night 2013 Celebrating Oscars 2013 on February 4, 2013.
WEARING: A.L.C. blazer and shirt, Theyskens’ Theory pants, Christian Louboutin shoes, Gucci bag, and jewelry from Jamie Wolf & Melinda Maria.

MY VERDICT:  I guess Naomi needed a dress break last night, and I can’t stay that I blame her.  The “Impossible” star kept her cool at the THR party in a shimmering winter white ensemble, which included an A.L.C. Spring 2013 blouse and “Harris” blazer that she partnered with silver skinny trousers from Theyskens’ Theory.  I like the structure of the layering, but her bold black Gucci “Bamboo” handbag is really distracting.  Everything is so light–and then, boom…big black bag.  She finished her look with nude “Back 2″ slingbacks from Christian Louboutin, Jamie Wolf diamond edged “Bisou” earrings and a Melinda Maria “Celia” gold necklace.  I’m loving Naomi’s shiny curls and rosy lip color.

As far as I’m concerned—she could have picked a more interesting shoe, but oh well.

MY VERDICT: Naomi kept it classic in black when she hit the red carpet for the annual Oscar nominee luncheon this afternoon in Beverly Hills.  The “Impossible” actress jumped on the floral lace trend, and wore a sleeveless bateau-neck Valentino embroidered dress, from the Resort 2013 collection, with a a-line voulant hem.  I’m sure it has to do with the fact that she has her hands in the hidden pockets and it’s bringing down the sides of the design, but I prefer the fit on the model.  More than that, I like the pairing of the red shoes.

That being said, I appreciate that while Naomi opted for nude patent “Paulina” pumps by Christian Louboutin, the sheer inset and black trim ended up complimenting her dress much more than any other typical neutral heel.  | continue reading..

WEARING: Marchesa dress, Christian Louboutin shoes, Fabergé jewelry & a Salvatore Ferragamo clutch.

MY VERDICT: I was hoping to see Naomi wear a little Marchesa on a major red carpet this season, and “The Impossible” actress picked the SAG Awards to make that moment happen. Naomi’s strapless silver-grey lace column dress looked so pretty and delicate on her lithe frame. Although side parted waves was a popular trend last night, I thought her hair style was perfect for the look.  Naomi’s Fabergé diamond floral earrings complimented the embroidery pattern of her dress, as did her manicure; a dark metallic grey that popped in contrast and allowed her diamond-trim emerald green ring to do the same. | continue reading..

WEARING: Nicole is wearing a L’Wren Scott dress, Nicholas Kirkwood shoes & Fred Leighton jewelry. Naomi is wearing a Victoria Beckham Collection dress, Rupert Sanderson shoes & Monique Pean jewelry.

MY VERDICT: It was apparently hard to pry Nicole and fellow Aussie actor Naomi from each other on the scarlet red carpet at the Producers Guild Awards.  The blonde beauties also pulled a “twinsie look” with their matching head-to-toe black outfits, full wavy tresses and neutral makeup palette.

Nicole stuck by her go-to L’Wren Scott for her full-length lace embroidered cap sleeve gown, which looked beautiful on her, while Naomi turned to Victoria Beckham‘s Spring 2013 collection for her look.  The star of “The Impossible” rocked a pencil sheath with mesh panels at the bodice before finishing with the celeb-favorite Rupert Sanderson “Elba” pumps.

I think both ladies pulled off equally complimenting, different, and flattering looks. I wonder if they planned this…

WHERE & WHEN: 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills on January 13, 2013.

MY VERDICT: I suspected we’d see this gorgeous burgundy crepe and satin long sleeve gown from the Zac Posen Pre-Fall 2013 collection on the red carpet this awards season, and I can’t say that I’m surprised Naomi was the one to debut it.  I think the silhouette is absolutely stunning and looked incredible and very regal on Naomi.  I had hoped if she was going to wear this that she would save it for Oscar night, but if you can’t wait—you can’t wait, and I understand that.

My favorite part of this dress is obviously the cutout back and glamorous train, and I like how Naomi wore her hair up to accentuate that all while also putting her matching diamond and ruby Lorrraine Schwartz earrings on display.  She completed her look with a burgundy-colored minaudière with metal frame from the Ferragamo Red Carpet collection.

In less than 24hrs some of the biggest stars in television and film will walk the red carpet for the 70th Annual Golden Globes Awards in Hollywood, but what will they be wearing?  In comes The Fashion Court: Wish List, with a selection of pretty gowns that I could picture on several of the stars who will be attending. I obviously couldn’t ‘dress’ all of the nominees and presenters, or else this post would take you over an hour to read, but you’ll find eighteen of your favorites below.

Now, I know how these shows work; I imagine a good 50% of the stars will be in custom made dresses, especially some of the stars included in this list. That doesn’t mean I can’t have my fun, of course.

MY VERDICT: When I first saw Naomi hit the red carpet, I knew there was something strikingly familiar about her black strapless silk cady dress with a mesh v-neck inset at the bust.  Then I remembered Natasha Poly had worn the same dress at the Cannes Film Festival last year! It was actually one of my favorite dresses at the festival that month.

Anyway, this sexy design comes from the Resort 2013 collection by Emilio Pucci, and although Natasha’s had a flowing train and it worked for her look, I happen to like the sleeker cut on Naomi with the side slit to show off her cool Nicholas Kirkwood graphic sandals.  | continue reading..

MY VERDICT: “The Impossible” actress dazzled on the red carpet in her McQueen gown! While it would totally be a show-stopper for the Golden Globes rather than the low-key PCAs, she looked amazing. The dress features a gold paillette embellished bodice with an open back, a multicolored crystal neckline—dubbing as a necklace—and a floor-length black silk skirt. | continue reading..
