Shailene Woodley made her first trip ever down the Academy Awards red carpet last night in a creamy long-sleeved gown from the Spring/Summer 2012 haute couture collection by Valentino.

The 20-year-old actress received mixed reviews on her look as many on-lookers believed it was ‘much too mature’ for her — I totally disagree, she looked fabulous and her gown was perfectly fit to her figure. Sure, she could have went strapless or opted for sequins, but that’s predictable. This is the first time Shailene has actually shocked me, and it was in a good way.

It’s less than a month into the new year but “The Descendants” actress Shailene Woodley must already be worn out from the amount of appearances she’s been making during award season. This is her first time making these annual red carpet rounds; just last week she hit the red carpet at the 23rd Annual Producers Guild Awards.

The 20-year-old actress arrived at the Beverly Hilton Hotel wearing a velvety frock from the Pre-Fall 2012 collection by Valentino.

I loved seeing this in the rich navy shade and styled as a tunic with matching pants for the presentation, but more than that, I liked it being gathered with a string belt.

Why did Shailene pass on that?

She has a nice figure and should embrace it… this dress looked like a tent on her.

Shailene completed her look with a great red pout and embellished silver sandals from Sergio Rossi; I think cascading waves would have been better than the haphazard ponytail she sported.
