She’s certainly been making some noise over here in the states, but I was still shocked — yet pleased, to know that the talented Jessie J was included in this years VH1 Divas concert event.

The 23-year-old English R&B/pop-star arrived on the red carpet at the Hammerstein Ballroom last night for the “VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul” concert in a daring dress from Falguni & Shane Peacock.

She’s such a fashion risk-taker, so I wasn’t surprised at all to see her in this black sheer long-sleeve dress from the Spring/Summer 2012 collection with gold and silver embroidered designs and open flap shoulder detail. To cover up personal areas, Jessie wore tight black shorts and a black bikini top underneath.

I noticed in some photos that she was wearing combat boots with the look, and I’m going to assume that’s because she’s still taking it easy on her foot (she broke it a few months ago!). Even while knowing that, I’m kind of disappointed that the calf-length dress was altered with an almost curtain-like hem. She recently wore a pair of gold oxford lace-up shoes to an event, she could have even worn those and left the dress in its original form.

I was super excited to see that her hair was back to the shoulder-length style with her blunt bangs. Lately she’s been trying different lengths and colors, though I really think this is her best look.

During the show, Jessie wore a blue bodysuit with her Dr Martens boots during a duet performance of Eddie Floyd’s classic “Knock On Wood” with Jennifer Hudson. That look was very much Jessie’s style — something very few can pull off, but she always does.

For a performance of her current US single “Domino”, Jessie rocked a black body-hugging dress from the Spring/Summer 2011 collection by Mark Fast with hot pink, blue, and orange fringe.

It appears that she had her dress customized with extra-long fringe detail as well as some modifications made to the top of the dress which included an added on long-sleeve shrug where fringe continued along the arms.

It was crazy, it was cool, and I loved it.

She finished off the look with thigh high black banded tights that she paired with her Dr Martens.

“VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul” airs TONIGHT at 9pm/8c only on VH1!
