Brace yourself for the tidal wave of shimmer that is the new Deborah Lippmann Summer 2013 collection — The Mermaids. This mystical line is inspired by the glittering seafoam green “Mermaid’s Dream” that was a best-seller and fan favorite from last year.
This time around Lippmann wants you to kick up your fins and show off her four shade– including: blue, orange, pink, and purple–variety of magical mermaid hues, “I created these shades by listening to what customers wanted – more Mermaid’s Dream. I took the beautiful glittered shimmer to another level by creating a whole family of shades reminiscent of the cult classic. Discover the same gorgeous glittering shine in any of The Mermaids,” Lippmann elaborated on her inspiration.
As a devoted fan of “Mermaid’s Dream”, I was excited to try out some of her new colors and got my hands on the peachy-orange “Million Dollar Mermaid” and the oceanic “Mermaid’s Eyes”.
Million Dollar Mermaid: I am in LOVE with this color! To be frank, the photos simply do not do justice for this tangerine beauty. This is the perfect beachy summer color, and probably one I will wear often as my tan increases. A light orange base–which, almost looks gold in the sun, with micro orange glitter. While the formula was very easy to work with, it was a bit on the sheer side. I used three coats for full opacity. Mermaid’s Eyes: This a seaside cerulean packed with micro dark blue glitter in an almost blue frost base. I thought for sure this would be my favorite of the two as I’m a sucker for blue polish–however, while I do love it, the glitter in this one just didn’t seem to pop as much for me. The formula was just as easy to work with, but not as sheer; it only needing two coats to reach full opacity.VERDICT: I love these, and can’t wait to get my hands on the other two fin-tastic Mermaid’s! This line is definitely worth checking out and picking up one or two for the summer. I’m sure you’ll flip!
