Let’s talk about WEN by Chaz Dean—Chances are you’ve heard of it; maybe you’ve even seen the infomercial during a late night of channel surfing, or perhaps you’ve heard your co-workers chatting about it. But, have you tried it? For those who haven’t heard of it–you will now, and after you try it, you’ll honestly never wash your hair the same way ever again.
After years of watching television segments, and hearing such great things about WEN, I finally caved and made my first purchase about year ago. However, I’ve only ever used the basic kit and Sweet Almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner, therefore when Guthy-Renker asked if I’d like to try their Spring Gardenia Green Tea needless to say I jumped at the chance. I mean, I’ve had such great results with what I’ve already used–why not?
Before I tell you what I think, let me tell you a bit more about WEN.
WEN is a 5-in-1 formula that is suppose to take the place of your shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, detangler, and leave-in conditioner. The method is to clean your hair without lathering like shampoo, and without leaving your hair and scalp harshly stripped of its natural oils.
As for my thoughts–let me break them down for you:
1. It smells incredible! I’m a bit bummed that the Spring Gardenia Green Tea is a seasonal scent only, because seriously, I couldn’t get over the scent. I absolutely fell in love with it.
2. It’s for all hair types. The seasonal Spring Gardenia Green Tea and the WEN starter Sweet Almond Mint are for all hair types. However, I do know that the the Pomegranate is for weak/limp hair and Lavender is their volumizing cleansing conditioner.
3. Don’t use too much. WEN advises using 10-16 pumps for short hair, 16-24 pumps for medium length hair, and 24-32 pumps for long hair–even more than that if you have longer and thicker tresses. After chopping off several inches of my hair recently, the latter was way too much for me. My hair is about medium length, very thick and naturally curly; I’d say I used only about 6-8 pumps total — 10 at most. It’s a decent sized bottle, but depending on how often you do your hair it would be gone before you know it.
4. Let it air dry. For me I noticed that blow drying it made it frizz up a bit, but air drying made it very shiny and smooth. I’m not great at blow drying my own hair, so there’s that. Having said that, you could give the styling cream a try; it helps a bit in this case and is supposed to reduce frizz and protect against heat styling.
Overall: I’m kind of in love with WEN, and will probably be using the Spring Gardenia Green Tea well into the summer. Like I mentioned with this one my hair is even softer and more bouncy. Plus, I just really like the scent. I will say by trying one of the other fragrances and how much more I like it, I kind of can’t wait for the other seasonals so I can give those a try too.
Keep in mind that while you can get WEN by Chaz Dean anytime, the seasonal fragrances change and rotate. So to get your hands on the Spring Gardenia Green Tea, you’ve got to act fast as it’s only available until June (you’ve got about a week), then it will switch to the Summer Mango Coconut. I’m counting down the days for that one as I’m a big fan of all things coconut.
