Review: China Glaze ‘Monsters Ball’ Halloween 2013 Collection

Product Review

Review: China Glaze Monsters Ball Halloween 2013 CollectionI’m a holiday nut to the core—ask anyone who knows me. I pretty much count down until September 1st so that I can celebrate my four favorite months that involve Fashion Week (okay, so that’s not an official holiday), Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. One of my favorite ways to celebrate the season is by playing around with nail art, so needless to say, I look forward to all the themed collections from some of my favorite nail brands.

CHINA GLAZE literally hits the nail on the head every year for Halloween with a boo-tastic collection of colors and glitters to create some of the prettiest–erm ‘creepy’ looks. The folks over at CG were kind enough to send their latest “Monsters Ball” Collection my way so that I could give you the scoop on what you’ll need to be wearing on your nails on All Hallows’ Eve!

Let’s boogie…

Review: China Glaze Monsters Ball Halloween 2013 CollectionBAT MY EYES
Bat My Eyes — This shimmering shade is packed with gold glitter with a helping of orange bar glitter in a black jelly base. To save a bit of dry time I wore it over a coat of black polish (which, I’m totally digging B.T.W.), but this can be worn on its own.

Review: China Glaze Monsters Ball Halloween 2013 CollectionBOO-GIE DOWN
Boo-gie Down — This is a gorgeous (and totally festive) glitter topper of multi-sized white, black and orange glitter in a clear base. This is my absolute favorite of the whole collection! I swatched it with one easy coat over Immortal, which is from China Glaze‘s Hallowen 2012 “Wicked” Collection.

Review: China Glaze Monsters Ball Halloween 2013 CollectionHOWL YOU DOIN
Howl You Doin’ — This is another favorite of mine. It’s completely jam-packed with vivid purple glitter in a deep violet jelly base; I think I also spotted a bit of pink and blue glitter as well. I wore it on its own (3 coats as well as top coat) as it dried looking a bit flat and bumpy. I love how dark the purple is–it almost looks black in the photos.

Review: China Glaze Monsters Ball Halloween 2013 CollectionFANG-TASTIC
Fang-tastic — Another top notch glitter! This one is a topper on a clear base with shimmering shades of green, blue, and magenta. Although this has a lot of coverage with just one coat, if you used two then you could probably wear it on its own. I wore it over black to show the glitter, but I’m sure it would look great over a vampy purple or any shade of blue.

Review: China Glaze Monsters Ball Halloween 2013 CollectionGHOULISH GLOW
Ghoulish Glow — This is a great glow-in-the-dark top coat that you can pretty much layer over any color. It gives it a subtle grey sparkle (as you can see in the photo above) when it’s not glowing. I tried my best to get a photo of the glow effect, however without a black light I wasn’t able to capture it on film.

Review: China Glaze Monsters Ball Halloween 2013 CollectionBUMP IN THE NIGHT
Bump In The Night — This color stands out as the only textured polish in the collection, a style that seems to be a growing trend this year. This is the first black textured polish I’ve seen that is solid black, which I love. The formula was fantastic, a smooth application and I only used one coat!

VERDICT: I would recommend getting a few of these, especially ‘Boo-gie Down’ and ‘Howl You Doin’. This collection is right up my alley as I’m borderline obsessed with glitter nail polish, but even if that’s not your typical thing this collection might just change your mind. Bonus: They don’t have to be used for just Halloween! I see some New Year’s Eve inspo going on with ‘Fang-tastic’.
