In my opinion, you’re never too old to be a Disney fan–and that’s why it’s still at the top of the list of things I love the most. In fact, my entire family could definitely be labeled “Disney Fanatics”! I was thrilled when Disney collaborated for the second time with OPI last spring for their Couture de Minnie Collection, but my excitement definitely flew off the richter when the House of Mouse launched their very own Beautifully Disney beauty line shortly after with a focus on the ‘wicked’ fairytale villains.
For their second installment of the cosmetic line, Disney introduces “Fantasy in Flight”–which is centered around Peter Pan’s famous side kick Tinker Bell and the Blue Fairy from “Pinocchio”. In the collection you’ll find a 6 shade eyeshadow palette, a set of four mini nail polishes, two lip glosses, and a brush set.
It should go without saying that I bounced around like Tigger when I got a special delivery of the collection to review for all of you, along with some signature pieces from the Beautifully Disney line (mascara and two blushes).
// MAKE UP
After prepping my eyes with a nude primer, I applied the Color #2 shade from the palette–a shimmering lemon yellow. It was very, very light so I had to apply a few swipes to give it a brighter pigment. As you can see, in natural light, it’s still very pale.
I then added Color #1 to the center. It looks like a very deep teal in the palette, but once applied it becomes a light turquoise. I used Color #3 (a copper shade) for the outer lid. I think the color held pretty close on the skin to what you see in the palette. The yellow and teal were probably the two most bold colors upon first glance, but they were both fairly pale when touching the skin. I’m sure if you use a wet brush–or continually add layers–you’ll get a deeper pigment for night looks, but the fact that they’re not too dark is great for wearing them daily.
My skin has a natural light tan with olive undertones, so while I’m not positive with how well the yellow would show up on someone with a fair complexion, they should have a higher intensity on a darker complexion.
I used two swipes of the Beautifully Disney Mascara*–unfortunately it started to clump on the second application.
After priming my eye, I used the sparkling white shade Color #6 as both a base and to brighten the inner lid. I love how smooth it applied, and I only needed to do one swipe because the color was pretty intense. I then took the pretty pink Color #4 and blended it. WOW–it was so easy to manipulate because the color was bright and blended into the white seamlessly. Because the colors were both so light, I used the granite Color #5 to give a slight smoky touch to the outer lids. It actually shows up on the lighter gray side, so I had to add a few layers, but it looked great with the pink and white.
When I first saw the palette, I thought my favorite colors were going to be the blue, copper and charcoal shades since I tend to love darker colors on my eyes, but as it turns out–the pink will probably be the one that gets the most action from me. You can see it a bit in pictures, but in person, it really feels like your eyes got a healthy dose of pixie dust.
I only used one swipe of the Beautifully Disney Mascara* on this eye.
Tinker Bell “Pouty Pixie” — I don’t usually use red lip glosses unless they’re more of a maroon tone, so I was apprehensive with the cool cherry shade of this lip gloss. While I still don’t think this is my shade and feel it would be better suited for someone with pink undertones, I absolutely love the color.
Blue Fairy “Star Glow” — Considering the previous came from the red family, I’m not surprised that it stained oh-so-slightly when I was transitioning into this mauve pink gloss. I think this was a little two frosty for me, but it’s still a pretty color.
Overall — As with all lip glosses, you have to give them a try for yourself to see if it works best for your complexion—however, if you have a tan/olive tone like me then I would suggest trying to slightly blend both. As for the texture and pigment, they apply easily, smoothly, and with the exact shade you see in the bottle. My favorite part? They weren’t sticky!
Dreamy Pink * — When I first opened this blush I was so nervous to see how it would look on me because it appears almost lilac-fuchsia in the container. As you can see in the above photo, on the skin it’s more of a bright punchy pink shade–but that was after swiping it 3 or 4 times on my arm. When I applied it to my cheeks, it was a faint pink that was really subtle and pretty. I imagine it would flatter a wide variety of skin tones.
Satin Peach * — What you see is what you get with this peachy blush! It appears a little more pink in the container, but overall, it’s a lovely true peach. Obviously it gets darker when you apply it (as you can see from the few swipes on my arm)–but whether you go on the lighter or darker side, it doesn’t drastically change tone.
// NAIL POLISH
VERDICT: As the famous saying goes: “All you need is a little faith, trust, and pixie dust.” This collection will definitely cover you in the pixie power department, and you’ll come out sparkling! Although my favorite items were a few shadows and polishes, I think there’s something for everyone in this collection with a wide enough range that it will appeal to a variety of skin tones.
