Anne Hathaway was amongst the star-studded guest list at this year’s glamorous Met Gala, which honored the “Charles James: Beyond Fashion” exhibit with a New York City white tie affair. The brunette beauty emerged onto the scarlet carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in a belly-baring Calvin Klein Collection bustier dress to match.
Anne may have been ‘seeing red’ with her outfit, but CHANEL Celebrity Makeup Artist Kate Lee opted for pink tones when it came to her bold and shiny pout.
“It’s an amped up version of bitten lips, paired with coppery eyes,” Kate explained the inspiration behind the look.
“Anne was wearing a dramatic red column dress, and I wanted to do the opposite of what people would expect. So, instead of putting a red lip with a red dress, we went for this cool pink balanced with a warm shade of eye shadow.”
GIVING FACE: Kate prepped Anne’s face with CHANEL Perfection Lumière Velvet Smooth-Effect Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in 22 Beige Rosé, which she blended using the CHANEL Blending Foundation Brush #7.
“I applied Le Blush Crème de Chanel in Cheeky under the cheekbones to sculpt, and Le Blush Crème de Chanel in Révèlation on the tops of the apples to bring a healthful flush,” she says. Kate also dusted CHANEL Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour SPF 15 in N°10 on Anne’s skin “…to deliver a diffusion of light over the face. This also sets makeup without being too chalky or matte.
I even use it on the body and tips of the ears to tone down any redness!” she explains.

I put it in the socket line and gently blended it out into an almond shade to bring attention to her eyes,” Kate said. “Then I applied a thin layer of the deep cooper brown from the CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Tissé Rivoli (Available August 2014) on top of the New Moon shade to add depth to the eye look. Using the CHANEL #13 Ultrafine Eyeliner Brush I traced a thin black liner along the base of the lashes to make them look thicker, and groomed her brows with Anastasia Brow Gel.”

PUCKER UP: “Anne’s lips are full and generous, so I just applied CHANEL Limited Edition Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating Sheer Lipshine in Emotion, which is such a pretty, bluish pink color that’s not too far away from Anne’s natural lip color.
I smudged it on with my fingers to keep everything soft and fluid, and patted on CHANEL Hydra Beauty Nourishing Lip Care.”
13. Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Nail Color ; 14. Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Color
NAILED IT: Anne was sporting a vivid red manicure that beautifully complimented her dress. Celebrity manicurist Fleury Rose (who has worked with stars like Kristin Wiig, Gabrielle Union, and Lily Collins) actually achieved the shimmering tone with two lacquers!
She used 1 coat of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Nail Color in “Ruby Do”; a pinkish purple hue, before applying 2 coats of a shimmering scarlet–Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Color in “Unbreakable Heart”.
