China Glaze teamed up with “The Giver” to celebrate the summer release of the social science fiction film, based off the early 1990s novel by Lois Lowry. Set in the year 2048, the dystopian story focuses on a community stripped of their memories. To keep in theme with the story and colors of the film, the polish collection features 10 cremes and 2 glitters that balance each other out with cool and warm tones. Ranging from pale mint green and ballet pink to vibrant brick red and purple, the line is reawakened with a shimmering bronze that actually looks like glittering gravel on your nails.
I was attracted to the line at first glance, so I was thrilled to received the collection from China Glaze to share my review with all of you. Read on to find out, what I think, are the most stand-out colors.
“The Giver” hits theaters nationwide on August 15, 2014.

Friends Forever, Right? — This is a very light baby pink creme. I stress that–very light. In the bottle it has more of a pink tone than when I actually put it on; it actually looked white. The first coat was a bit streaky but built up nicely. I used three thin coats for complete coverage.
New Birth — We have another very light creme, but this time it’s a baby blue. You can see better with this one that it actually is blue, however the color is still so light that it seems more white on the nail. I used three thin coats with this one too as it was a bit thin and streaky too.
Five Rules — This leans more towards a beige/gray-ish creme, which I like. The formula was a tad lumpy, but nothing a little topcoat couldn’t fix. I used two coats for coverage.
Intelligence, Integrity & Courage — A very pretty blue-gray, which I think leans more towards blue. I really liked this one, especially for the fall season. The formula was good and opaque in two coats.
Release — This reminds me a lot of Intelligence, Integrity & Courage, but with more of a purple base. The formula was great, very smooth and almost a ‘one coater’. Although, I used two coats just to be on the safe side.
Capacity To See Beyond — Probably the brightest of the bunch, and one of my favorites as a aqua creme. I think this is a perfect color to close out the summer with. As with the previous shade, the formula was nice and I only needed two coats.
History of the World — A dusty navy blue creme…and I love it! Great formula, and it went on smoothly with two coats.
The Outer Edge — This is a white and silver micro glitter in a clear base and it had excellent glitter coverage with just one coat, as you can see here over History of the World. I personally wasn’t a huge fan of the look because the silver somewhat disappears when applied to the nail. The shimmer had more impact in the bottle.
Community — A very calm brown creme with red tones. I had no problems at all with the formula and it was opaque in two coats.
Givers Theme — This purple creme would be the other bright of the bunch. It’s a bit hard to tell in the photo but, to me, it almost looks like it has pink hues in person. The formula wasn’t too bad, although I had to use three thin coats to make sure any “bald” spots were covered.
Seeing Red — I was a bit excited for this one as it seemed like a slightly orange-red in the bottle but, after putting it on, it’s definitely just a classic red creme. I love red polish, but I was let down in thinking it was more of a brick red. The application was a bit tricky because it was thinner than the others and flooded my cuticles, but coverage was good with two coats.
Boundary of Memory — Hands down, this is my favorite of the whole collection. Black, gold and amber glitter that just sparkles so much in the sun! Oh, let’s face it, it sparkles everywhere you go! The formula was flawless, not thick at all, and the build up was very nice. I used two coats by itself. It has a slightly rough texture when it dries, but was completely smooth with topcoat.
FYI: All colors are topped with the super glossy and quick dry HK Girl Top Coat.
VERDICT: Overall, I think it’s a nice collection for the transitioning seasons. My favorites (and recommendations) would be Boundary of Memory (MUST), History of the World, Intelligence, Integrity & Courage, and Capacity to See Beyond.
