I mentioned a few weeks ago that China Glaze was dropping a collection for fall that was both perfect for the season and the fashion lover and now, thanks to the lovely CG team, I’ve gotten my hands on the “FW’18 Ready To Wear” Collection and I’m so excited to share my swatch review with all of you!
New York Fashion Week is in fully swing and a week in London, Milan and Paris is just around the corner, so what’s a better time to prep your nails with one of the 12 on-trend fashion week-inspired shades that are included in this line? Whether you’re looking for deep hued reds, the autumn essential mustard, a trendy matte or metallic, vibrant seasonal transition shades like bright olive and denim or even a subtle clean mani, look no further–China Glaze has you covered.
Check out my review below, and let me know what you’re ‘ready to wear’!
Pleather Weather – A gray slate matte–although, to me, it looks more wax or ‘leather’ than matte when dry. It’s a pretty color, but it’s one that I actually liked more with top coat and glossy. The formula was a little thin but, for the most part, had good coverage on the first coat. It took a bit to fully dry, which isn’t typical with China Glaze and their matte shades.
I will say to try and use as little strokes as possible, as it looks smooth during application however, once dry, you can see some of them. If that happens, throw on your favorite top coat and it will smooth everything out. As you can see below.
I used two coats, and later added topcoat for a different look.
Throwing Suede – A classic pink-toned nude creme, which is a great shade for every fall collection as it complements all the dark colors. Formula-wise: It was a little sheer on the first coat, which is normal for light colors but everything smoothed out well on the second.
Chic Happens – This is described as a ‘light lilac metallic’, however, I didn’t get that at all; it seemed to give me more of a bronzed shade on the nail and looks gray/silver in photos. I’m not crazy about this one. The formula wasn’t too bad — it had great coverage in two coats, but be careful of brush strokes.
Sample Sizing Me Up – I love it! Seriously, this one was a surprise love for me. The color is a beautiful one coat steel blue — kind of a denim — creme … oh, yes, I said ONE COAT! With a fantastic formula that was super smooth and had an easy application, I did two coats because I like to …but I really didn’t need to, and it’s also got a super shiny finish.
Although you can’t tell in the photo, I think it dries a little darker than the shade in the bottle.
You Don’t Know Jacket – Yes! I love shades like this — so dark and beautiful. This is probably the darkest midnight blue creme you will find. I had some light-shifting issues while taking the pictures but, depending on your lighting, you could either see more of the blue tone…or not.
This is a great color, formula, and good to go with two coats.
Note: This one is probably a ‘stainer’ so, be careful with removal.
Vest Friends – Described as a ‘moss green shimmer’, this one is very interesting; at first look I got a lot of gray and even blue tones but didn’t see the green, even in the swatch photos it doesn’t look very green to me. However, you can really see it in person on the nail and it’s really pretty.
The formula was a little thick, but not a problem to apply and fully covered with two coats.
Mustard the Courage – Mustard yellow seems to be THE color this fall (or every fall), and this is the shade of the collection that has everyone buzzing. I’m not a yellow polish kind of girl…ever, but I have to admit I really like this one. With the deepness of the color it’s almost like a brown mustard creme.
Great formula, and complete coverage in two coats with a glossy finished look.
Central Parka – Don’t you love all the names? I do — almost as much as I LOVE this deep olive green creme -aka- the perfect seasonal green as it reminds me of fall foliage. Just as the other cremes, the formula was good and easy to apply …although it did seem to dry a little darker than the bottle.
Swatch Out! – I really like this copper shimmer, albeit probably more in the bottle than on me. I used two coats for coverage. It has a good formula, but be careful of the brush strokes.
Pay It Fashion Forward – WOW! This is such a gorgeous purple shimmer! From the bottle it looks as though there is gold shimmer in it, however, when it’s on the nail you see flecks of pink and a little blue. Formula-wise, it was a bit thin — similar to Vest Friends. I thought I might end up needing three coats, but it built up well enough that two achieved full coverage.
Aut-umm I Need That – If you’re looking for “Fall in a bottle”–this is it! Pictures do not do this rich red-brown shimmer any justice. The glittering effect almost has a color shift, which reminds me how fall leaves can have a gradient of gold, red and orange.
The formula is just as thin as the other shimmers — I had full coverage in two coats.
Haute Blooded – This vampy garnet is beautiful both matte and glossy; I prefer it glossy as it’s somewhat pearlized, but full disclosure: it was a bit difficult for me to get it 100% smooth matte. You have to work quickly–with enough polish on the brush–when applying as it dries very fast.
I used two coats for coverage and then added topcoat later. (above)
VERDICT: I’d say this is a great collection of colors for the autumn season and I didn’t really have any major issues other than smoothing out the mattes and a few tiny brush strokes. All of the cremes were a breeze to apply, with a nice glossy finish. At this point, I wish the matte trend would end or maybe be limited to just one or even come with a matte top coat so that you can choose it.
I would recommend grabbing ALL of these as they are great colors. However, my *must haves* include: Sample Sizing Me Up, Mustard the Courage, Central Parka, Pay It Fashion Forward, Aut-umm I Need That and Haute Blooded. I know that last one is a tiny hassle, but it’s so worth it!
