WHO: Keke Palmer
WHERE & WHEN: 2020 MTV Video Music Awards on August 30, 2020.
WEARING: AREA, David Koma, Versace, Ralph & Russo, Elisabetta Franchi & Valentino
MY VERDICT: Keke Palmer had a historical night as the host of this year’s MTV VMAs; not only was this the first time the ceremony has ever been hosted, mostly, virtually but she’s also the first-ever Black woman to host the VMAs solo–and she knocked it out of the park.
As for her fashion, it was equally fabulous! Keke opened the show in a glorious Ralph & Russo Spring 2020 Couture pale pink tulle halterneck cocktail dress, which was embellished with tiers of ostrich feathers, xilions, sequins and crystal chains, and punctuated by cobalt blue coque feathers. She polished it off with a sleek up-do and rose gold sandals.
I’m in love with this look!
During her tribute to Chadwick Boseman, Keke opted for a black dress. She selected a lovely Elisabetta Franchi fit-and-flare dress with gold hardware detail and bow accents at the straps.
A high ponytail and fringe hairstyle with hold twisted hoop earrings completed the look.
For another segment during the show we saw Keke showing off serious leg in a ice blue Area Spring 2020 micro dress with an oversized bow accenting the slit. This dress was adorable on her, but while I loved the black pumps – I would have liked a silver shoe event more.
She continued to serve leg in this black floor length David Koma Resort 2021 gown featuring ornate embellishments that traveled down her sheer sleeve and, once again, highlighted the slit in the skirt. This time around the matching shoes were a total hit.
Keke gave us some ’90s throwback vibes with this Versace Pre-Fall 2020 black dress, which featured multi-color floral appliqués at the bust and gold buttons traveling down the sultry slit in the skirt.
The statement earrings and sleek up ‘do provided the finishing touches on this vintage glam moment.
To close the show, Keke took the stage in a black Valentino Fall 2020 floor-length gown.
On the runway, this dress was presented as a plunging neckline silhouette, but Keke re-invented it by crossing the straps over for a halterneck style. Honestly, I can’t decide which way I love more.
