China Glaze wants you to deck the halls in Hollywood this holiday season with their brand new Holiday 2020 “Jollywood” Collection! Whether you’ve been naughty or nice, let your nails take on Tinseltown with the new 12-shade range that’s filled with traditional hues, party-ready glitters and a little bit of metallic fun to have your nails shining through the new year.
My nails broke right before it was time to swatch, so I improvised! It is 2020, after all.
Check out my swatch review below!
Santa Monica Claus — This is a bright Santa Claus-approved cherry red with a bit of a pink undertone. The festive vibe is enhanced thanks to a subtle gold shimmer. As a big fan of red nail polish, especially during the holiday season, I found this to be beautiful.
The formula is a bit on the thinner side; I achieved this with 2 coats.
Yule Jewels — The second red in the collection is much lighter with a warm undertone, thanks in part to the gold holographic flakes. While this is also a thin formula, I like the color. I probably wouldn’t wear it during the holiday season, but I would break it out during the spring and summer. This is 2 coats.
Famous Fir Sure — This creamy metallic chartreuse green has a chrome effect that I was really excited to try because I love metallic polish. The color is sensational, but the streaking is not my jam. I want to love this, so when I attempt it again, I’m hoping the application is a better experience than this swatch was.
Celebri-Tree — Now we’re talking! Every holiday collection needs that one color that really amplifies the vibe of the season and, for me, that’s this tinsel-filled emerald. I really love this color and how light bounces off the metallic pieces of glitter; I know I’m going to wear it a lot.
This is 2 coats; it’s a little thicker in formula, but that’s okay.
Silent Nightlife — This metallic lilac purple chrome shimmer hue is just like Famous Fir Sure. I want to love it more than I do, but that streaking is such a headache for me. This is 2 coats.
Valet the Sleigh — This is a bright purple packed with silver and purple micro-glitter. This is a gorgeous color, and perfect for a New Year’s Eve celebration. My only qualm is that it has a semi-matte finish, which isn’t my favorite type of formula. I’ll be breaking out my shiniest top coat when I rock this again.
I achieved coverage with 2 coats.
Melrose Fireplace — It’s like you just popped open a bottle of bubbly on your nails with this frosty gold glitter. The neutral tone is perfect for nail art bases, but it’s also gorgeous as a standalone if you’re looking for a heavy dose of sparkle that will look good with every holiday outfit.
I achieved coverage in 2 coats.
Screen Vixen — The second gold in the collection is a light shimmer with another semi-matte finish. If you’re not the biggest fan of a velvet finish, I don’t think you should avoid this color — just grab your favorite top coat. I didn’t have any streaking; this was achieved with 2 coats.
Snow Biz — This is a shimmery silver-gray metallic, a classic in any holiday collection. What makes this color a little extra special? The subtle purple shimmer undertones!
This is 2 coats, and could have gone for 3.
Tinsel Town — This is very appropriately named. If you want to turn your silver metallic up another notch, you’ll love this icy foil finish. It’s a little on the thinner side; I didn’t get full coverage with 2 coats.
Deck the Malls — This deep blue packed with bright silver glitter reminds me of a Christmas night sky in a holiday painting. I don’t typically wear blue during the holiday season because I have so many reds, greens and metallics to work my way through, but I might make an exception this year.
I achieved coverage in 2 coats.
Slay Your Line – This is a silver-blue shimmer that’s basically the sister shade to Snow Biz. While it appears a bit more purple on camera, you can definitely see the blue in person.
I used 2 coats, but you should probably apply another thin one for better coverage.
VERDICT: This was a really beautiful holiday collection – perfect for the season, indeed. Yes, there were a few issues with formulas, but all of the colors are lovely. I really liked that there were two versions of each shade, although the reds weren’t that distinctive from each other like I’d hope.
My favorites: Santa Monica Claus, Celebri-Tree, Valet the Sleigh, Tinsel Town and Deck the Malls. I’d love Famous Fir Sure and Silent Nightlife a whole lot more if the streaking hadn’t been such a hassle.
