Anne Hathaway in Givenchy | Tate Americas Foundation Artists Dinner

Anne Hathaway in Givenchy | Tate Americas Foundation Artists DinnerPhotos: Zimbio; Style.com
WHO: Anne Hathaway
WHERE & WHEN: Tate Americas Foundation Artists Dinner on May 8, 2013.
WEARING: Givenchy dress

MY VERDICT: I may have loved Anne Hathaway’s new platinum blonde ‘do at the MET ball this week, but now that it’s styled in a “less punk” way–I feel that this will take some getting use to. I think it’s the dark eyebrows.

The Oscar winning actress hit the red carpet for the Tate Americas Foundation Artists Dinner in New York City where she bared some leg in a pale pink Givenchy cocktail dress. I have to admit that I like the nipped and shortened alteration to the Spring 2013 design, and I find the pink to be better suited for Anne over the blue. The latter would have probably just screamed “Cinderella”.

That being said, I just don’t love this dress, and even more than that—I’m not digging those strappy gold sandals with it.

Anne finished with a rose gold mirrored box clutch.

Beyoncé in Givenchy Couture | MET Gala 2013

Beyoncé in Givenchy Couture | MET Gala 2013Photos: Zimbio; Style.com
WHO: Beyoncé Knowles
WHERE & WHEN: 2013 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala – PUNK: Chaos to Couture on May 6, 2013.
WEARING: Head-to-toe Givenchy Haute Couture

MY VERDICT: As usual Beyoncé was one of the final arrivals of the MET gala last night where she emerged onto the red carpet in a custom head-to-toe Givenchy couture creation. The black and gold patterned gown was clearly inspired by the Fall 2013 Ready-to-Wear line, which just so happened to be something I had hoped to see at the ball. Beyoncé wore a strapless full train gown with a black leather bodice and a high-waist skirt–belted with edgy studs–that featured an equally high slit to showed off her printed over the knee boots. I don’t think having the boots match the skirt so closely would have worked for any other event other than this one, and it looks kind of cool to be quite honest. It’s not something that’s easily pulled off.

I don’t think the long gloves were too over-done because you needed some serious drama at this fête, but I also don’t feel that there was anything really punk about this–despite my liking the dress. | continue reading..

Taylor Swift in J. Mendel | MET Gala 2013

Taylor Swift in J. Mendel | MET Gala 2013Photos: Zimbio
WHO: Taylor Swift
WHERE & WHEN: 2013 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala – PUNK: Chaos to Couture on May 6, 2013.
WEARING: J. Mendel dress and clutch, Givenchy shoes & Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

MY VERDICT: I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a sad thing that Country/Pop star Taylor Swift was able to execute punk better than most at the MET ball this year. The “22″ singer arrived as a guest of designer Gilles Mendel wearing a custom J. Mendel black silk crepe gown with lace inserts, a chiffon sunburst pleated back and a sparkling silver-gold embroidered crystal neckline.

Taylor played up the ‘Chaos to Couture’ vibe that was the theme of the evening. Granted she didn’t break out garbage bag leather and a faux hawk, but she certainly hit a higher note than most. The embroidery along the neck reminded me somewhat of Kate Hudson’s dress at the Golden Globe Awards back in January, but my favorite part of the dress were the daring lace panels. | continue reading..

Rooney Mara in Givenchy Couture | MET Gala 2013

Rooney Mara in Givenchy Couture | MET Gala 2013Photos: Zimbio; Style.com
WHO: Rooney Mara
WHERE & WHEN: 2013 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala – PUNK: Chaos to Couture on May 6, 2013.
WEARING: Givenchy Haute Couture dress and shoes, and jewelry from Fred Leighton & Jennifer Meyer.

MY VERDICT: Rooney, co-chair with Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci, set the annual gala in motion when she arrived in this custom-made long sleeve white lace gown. I was really into the open back and punk inspiration of the zippers at the waist line; it comes from Tisci’s Fall-Winter 2010/2011 Haute Couture collection. I know the theme this year is PUNK: Chaos to Couture in honor of the new punk exhibition, and granted this wasn’t in-your-face punk nor is it something different from Rooney—but, I really don’t care because I loved it on her and she doesn’t need to try hard. A center rising ruffled hem gave us a great view of Rooney’s shark tooth white ankle strap sandals. | continue reading..

Ester Dean in Givenchy | 2013 MTV Movie Awards

Ester Dean in Givenchy | 2013 MTV Movie Awards Photos: Zimbio; Style.com
WHO: Ester Dean
WHERE & WHEN: 2013 MTV Movie Awards held on April 14, 2013.
WEARING: Givenchy Menswear

MY VERDICT: Ester opted for pants when she hit the red carpet–and the MTV Movie Awards stage to perform with her “Pitch Perfect” costars. Dressed in head-to-toe black and gold, Ester rocked a “Madonna” graphic long sleeve silk-satin top from the Spring 2013 Givenchy Menswear collection. She partnered the bold top with liquid leather leggings and gold hidden platform sneaker wedges before finishing off with oversize gold hoops and a high braided ponytail. The comfort level of this look was probably pretty high, but for the most part—I like that she kept it cool.

Zoe Saldana in Givenchy | 2013 MTV Movie Awards

Zoe Saldana in Givenchy | 2013 MTV Movie Awards Photos: Zimbio; Style.com; Jimmy Choo; EF Collection; Graziela
WHO: Zoe Saldana
WHERE & WHEN: 2013 MTV Movie Awards held on April 14, 2013.
WEARING: Givenchy dress, Jimmy Choo shoes, and jewelry from Graziela & EF Collection.

MY VERDICT: In my opinion, Zoe was one of the best dressed ladies of the night. The MTV Movie Awards are not about glitz and glamour; it’s definitely much more low-key when it comes to dresses on the red carpet. You’re supposed to expect funky playsuits, playful dresses, and a touch of cocktail attire. I love the casual approach Zoe took towards an evening look by selecting this Givenchy Fall 2013 gown, which bursts with edgy femininity by combining a long sleeve black silk top with a full-length floral skirt that features a sexy high side slit and a sheer dotted panel.

Seriously, it’s all about the skirt, and I’m digging how Zoe didn’t try to overpower it by layering up on accessories to create a busy atmosphere up top. | continue reading..

Mila Kunis in Givenchy & Michelle Williams in Victoria Beckham | “Oz: The Great and Powerful” Moscow Photocall

WHO: Mila Kunis (left), Michelle Williams (right)
WHERE & WHEN: ”Oz: The Great and Powerful” Moscow photocall on February 27, 2013.
WEARING: Mila- Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci dress, Christian Louboutin shoes, and jewelry from Melinda Maria & Dana Rebecca Designs. ; Michelle- Victoria Beckham dress & Charlotte Olympia shoes.

MY VERDICT: While Rachel Weisz did some promo elsewhere, Mila Kunis and Michelle Williams joined a very blonde James Franco at the photocall and press conference in Moscow, Russia to celebrate their new Disney movie “Oz: The Great and Powerful” in very cool coordinating greyscale ensembles.  Well, maybe not James’ boots.

Mila flaunted her figure, while staying warm, in a cozy grey jersey Givenchy dress–from the Pre-Fall 2013 collection, which featured all-over ruching and cascading ruffles down the center of the dress. I really like how this dress fit her, but I wish she had worn her hair partially up to show off a bit more of the flared neckline.  Mila accessorized with the gold/white diamond “Galaxy Wrap” ring and gold “Nailhead Heart” ring from Melinda Maria along with a Dana Rebecca “Sylvie Rose” necklace, before | continue reading..

Florence Welch in Givenchy | 2013 GRAMMY Awards

Florence Welch in Givenchy | 2013 GRAMMY AwardsPhotos: Zimbio; Style.com
WHO: Florence Welch
WHERE & WHEN: 55th Annual Grammy Awards on February 10, 2013.
WEARING: Head-to-toe Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci Fall 2009 Haute Couture.

MY VERDICT: According to Florence + the Machine’s front-woman, you can never have too much green!  The English singer hit the red carpet for the Grammys wearing a custom made Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci poison emerald sequin gown with lizard-inspired spikes along the chest, back, and arms.  A similar high-neck black version was seen on the runway for the Fall 2009 Haute Couture collection.  This dress is insane!  I like the serpent idea, which she complimented with matching snake rings, but I think elements of it made it too busy–especially the matchy-matchy bag and shoes.

To be honest, I like the turtle neck design more.  Florence completed her look with loosely swept up hair and a dark pout.

Jessica Chastain in Givenchy | THR Nominees’ Night 2013

WHO: Jessica Chastain
WHERE & WHEN: The Hollywood Reporter Nominees’ Night 2013 Celebrating Oscars 2013 on February 4, 2013.
WEARING: Givenchy dress, Christian Louboutin shoes

MY VERDICT: I’m kind of over this dress.  Don’t get me wrong, I like it—but after seeing many, many variations of this Givenchy peplum design over the last year, I can take a break. You feel me?  Perhaps Ashley Greene‘s red carpet moment was the most popular as it was this exact Resort 2012 style.  That being said, Jessica looked great as per usual.  I’m just torn on whether I liked the fact that she left the peplum detail unfastened and tried to be a bit edgy and different, or if I’m bothered that she disrupted the intended silhouette.  I may never come to a decision, so in the meantime I’ll just tell you that she finished the look with Christian Louboutin nude “Pigalle” classic stiletto pumps. | continue reading..
