WHERE & WHEN: Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala – “Charles James: Beyond Fashion” on May 5, 2014.
WEARING: Donna Karan Atelier dress, Christian Louboutin shoes, a Zagliani clutch & jewelry from House of Harlow 1960 & Catbird.
MY VERDICT: Nicole turned heads for two reasons at the Met Ball this year; not only is she currently sporting an intense shade lilac tresses this spring, but she emerged onto the red carpet in super slinky Donna Karan Atelier gown with a ‘neck-breaking’ sexy open back.
The 32-year-old uber-petite designer wore a custom-dyed Sage backless graphic devore velvet floor length gown with semi-sheer panels, and tiny asymmetric straps that delicately criss-cross around an open low back.
There were definite details about the silhouette that reminded me of the gown Nina Dobrev wore two years ago for the gala. The dress is cool and edgy—however, combined with the purple hair, was it, perhaps, too edgy for a white tie formal themed event?
A swept up ‘do that helped show off her ear cuff, smoky neutral makeup, dainty silver jewelry, and a metallic pair of Christian Louboutin pumps completed Nicole’s Met look.
