As Marvel’s “The Avengers”, based off the comic book series, hits theaters next month — and Scarlett reprises her role as the fierce Black Widow, we reap the benefits by getting to see her wear some stunning designs in this retro Hollywood editorial photographed by Mario Testino.
Scarlett posed alongside her costar Mark Ruffalo for the photo shoot; “Scarlett played it really well, with a wink in her eye.” Ruffalo told VOGUE about her Avengers character.
For the cover, Scarlett was transformed into a 1930’s Hollywood siren as Bill Doig styled the 27-year-old in a ruched mauve gown and pearl drop earrings. With a classic pin curl ‘do, courtesy of Oribe for Oribe Hair Care, she was given a refreshed look accompanied by rich glossy lips with help from make-up artist James Kaliardos.
In the issue, Scarlett opens up about coming into her own, ending her marriage to Ryan Reynolds and those personal, intimate photos of herself that someone hacked and released online last year. “I don’t want to be a victim and say, ‘Oh, well’ and just hide my head in shame. Somebody stole something from me… It’s sick. I don’t want people like that to slide.”
She’s also wearing a Delfina Delettrez necklace and earrings with Gaspar gloves, and carrying an embellished Judith Leiber clutch in one hand while toting a magnificent wild cat in her other.
Perhaps the most eye-catching detail is that high heel on her head.
Scarlett’s quirky hat is by designer Stephen Jones.
Scarlett and her feline friend lounge in style in this black and white shot.
Her somewhat-jazz hands in this shot beautifully showed off her Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co. diamond earrings, Sonia Rykiel glass pearl brooches and Delfina Delettrez layered bracelets.
Scarlett’s pale platform sandals are by Christian Louboutin.
Her retro curls are something I’d like to see her continue on the red carpet one day.
