Review: OPI 'The Nutcracker and the Four Realms' Holiday 2018 Collection

What do you get when you combine Disney, Christmas, and nail polish? MAGIC. That’s what you get.

OPI teamed up with Walt Disney Pictures for a brand new seasonal collection to celebrate the release of Disney’s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms (in theaters now!), and in the limited edition Holiday 2018 line, you’ll find 15 magical shades–including 3 glittering toppers that can be worn alone or as an accent to deliver maximum shine to any color you choose to wear.

Whether you love traditional red, green, gold and silver–or if you like your holidays with a dash of pink and blue, there’s something for you.  I’m over the festive moon with this, you guys! These are definitely some of my favorite things, and I’m thrilled that the team over at OPI sent them over for me to play with.

Check out my swatch review below!

Dancing Keeps Me on My Toes – A shimmering, frosty white. Formula wise it was pretty sheer and some streaking with every coat; I did two coats, but probably should have done three as there was still some visible nail lines.

Tinker, Thinker, Winker? – A gorgeous, twinkling holographic silver! This one is pretty awesome, not only with the insane sparkle, but it can be worn alone as well as a topper. It builds up pretty smoothly, and I only needed two coats for coverage.

It’s also SO pretty as a topper as I used one coat over Lavendare to Find Courage.

Dazzling Dew Drops – A yellow gold shimmer, which looks frosty and metallic at the same time. I actually really love this color and the formula as well. I don’t know if it pairs well with my skin tone personally, but I still love it. I used two coats for coverage, and any streaking ended up not really being noticeable.

Dreams Need Clara-fication – This is a funny color because, in the bottle and photos is looks like a nice light sky blue creme, but on the nail it gives of more of a periwinkle look. Either way I was really impressed with how easy the formula was to apply. I personally have a love/hate relationship with creme colors and smooth applications, but got full smooth coverage in two coats.

Lavendare to Find Courage – A super light lavender creme that, at times, looks like a soft pink. I don’t usually like colors this light, but I’m so happy with the super smooth application that I’m digging it. I would never wear a shade like this for the holidays though, but definitely for the spring!

This is two coats for full coverage.

Toying with Trouble – A bright pink creme with yet another great formula! I may sound repetitive, but I love how easy these have been to apply. I’ve seen numerous swatch photos where this one looks like a hot pink, but it’s not; it’s a little brighter than my photo shows, but not by much.

Envy the Adventure – Yessss! Now this is a holiday color and a gorgeous one at that! I was super excited for this Christmas green — a nice and smooth creme, which is also the perfect base color to dress up in holiday sparkles! I used two coats for full coverage.

March in Uniform – I’m a sucker for blue polish, and if you’ve read any of my other polish reviews, you already know that. This is a super smooth a pretty navy blue creme; a great choice for a winter or Hanukkah look. There’s nothing super unique about the color, but it’s a good smooth creme, and with two coat coverage.

Black to Reality – A shimmery and deep burgundy shade of stunning! OPI has a few shades that are very similar to this, like Every Month is Oktoberfest and Muir Muir on the Wall, but I don’t care! They aren’t exactly the same and it’s a gorgeous color—a color I’ll be wearing again in the fall, I’m sure.

The application was a breeze, with two coats for full coverage.

Berry Fairy Fun – A purple, berry with kind of an iridescent look. I thought this would be a favorite of mine from the collection because it’s the type I usually reach for, but it’s actually one of my least. The formula is pretty thin and, while I used two coats, I probably should have done a third for full coverage. Also, I don’t think the final look was as dark of a shade as the bottle shows, which is what I was looking forward to.

Candied Kingdom – Classic candy apple red creme… OPI knows their red polishes. This is certainly a good one to use as a base for those holiday glitters, or to wear alone if that’s your thing.

Super smooth application, and full coverage in two coats.

Ginger’s Revenge – This is another great red creme–both color and formula wise. I’d say this one was more of a wine red, and definitely my favorite of the red cremes. Once again, I found this to be a smooth formula and covered/finished with two coats.

LIMITED BONUS:

OPI included a trio of glitter toppers, all of which are kind of the same with a few color variations, in this special collection. The glitter coverage (with one coat) is great. There’s not too much that you can’t see your base coat, and not too little where you have to really fish for glitter pieces.

Gold Key to the Kingdom (over Envy the Adventure) – A mix of various gold glitter from large hexagons to a dusting of shimmer, with some large white hexagons as well.

I Pull the Strings (over March in Uniform) – This is the rose gold one, which–again–is various gold glitter mixed in with some large rose gold hexagon pieces and pink shimmer.

Dreams on a Silver Platter (over Ginger’s Revenge ) – Lastly, we have the silver topper that is exactly the same as Gold Key to the Kingdom, but with large silver hexagon pieces instead.

VERDICT: I’d say this is a well rounded collection for the movie, but there’s only a small selection of shades out of the bunch that I’d actually wear during the holiday season, which just means I’ll be wearing these well into the new year.  My favorites would have to be…Tinker, Thinker, Winker?; Envy the Adventure; Black to Reality; Ginger’s Revenge and all the bonus toppers.
