Review: OPI 'Muse of Milan' Fall 2020 Collection

A fashion-centric nail polish collection couldn’t have come at a better time than during FASHION WEEK, so get ready for the OPI ‘Muse of Milan’ Fall 2020 Collection!

Fashion Week looks a little different this year as it’s gone mostly digital due to the pandemic, but as one of the most iconic brands in the nail lacquer game, OPI has created a line that’s pretty much a love letter to the wonders of Milan, Italy to your fingertips; the culture, the culinary and, of course, the fashion.

“For more than two decades, OPI has taken women around the world with its destination-themed collections. When we first conceptualized this collection, we traveled to Milan for inspiration. We ate fresh pasta, spent hours walking the city streets, and drank Campari and orange juice while checking out the incredible street style. We had no idea the hardships and changes Milan would soon be facing due to the global pandemic,” explains OPI Co-Founder and Brand Ambassador Suzi Weiss-Fischmann. “Through this collection, we proudly support and honor Milan, a magical city that showed its loving spirit even at the height of the coronavirus outbreak.”

I think at a glance the collection is very beautiful and definitely touches on the autumnal hues we all know and love, but with a bit of a lighter touch. Check out my swatch review below to get a closer look!

This Color Hits All the High Notes — A delicate pearlized white that gives a very subtle blue shift. Unfortunately, the shift isn’t noticeable at all in any of the photos I took—it just gives it a gray tone look. The formula on this was super thin; I’m wearing three coats and could use another. I would probably wear it as a topper in the future and not even bother with multiple coats.

Fall-ing for Milan — A subtle bronze, almost a light coffee tone with gold shimmer; I really enjoyed this one and how pretty it looked. I used two coats, plus top coat to smooth everything out as my brush was a bit wonky.

Galleria Vittorio Violet — A violet with shimmering purple and pink. This is so much prettier than my photos capture; the shimmer isn’t super noticeable, but looks more like the shine you can kind of see in the bottle. I used two coats for coverage.

Addio Bad Nails, Ciao Great Nails — A gray toned, murky purple with a touch of purple shimmer. Formula was easy to work with and covered with two coats.

OPI Nails the Runway — This granite gray is packed with multi-color shimmer, and it reminds me of concrete after a rainstorm, you know, when it has that rainbow-oil slick look. The formula was pretty sheer; I used three coats for my swatch.

Leonardo’s Model Color — A gorgeous purple with a blue tone, packed with gold/purple/pink shimmer. The formula was pretty much the same and as sheer as OPI Nails the Runway; needed three coats again.

Have Your Panettone and Eat it Too — A beautiful and smooth pumpkin orange creme. This is my absolute favorite of the collection, I simply love it! The formula was perfect and opaque in two coats.

My Italian is a Little Rusty — Described as a ‘rich chestnut’, this color screams Fall. Personally it looks like a rusty burnt orange to me, but either way, I love the color. Again, this was a perfect formula and I had coverage in two coats.

Suzi Talks with Her Hands — A muted gray creme, with a bit of a green tone. Great formula with a smooth application, two coats for coverage.

Drama at La Scala — A dramatically deep teal creme, which is always a pretty accent to the typical fall colors. I used two coats.

Duomo Days, Isola Nights — This deep, rich sapphire blue creme is so dark it almost looks navy. Formula is pretty much the same as the other cremes and coverage in two coats. However, for this one, I’d give a high stain warning with as I only had it on for a few minutes and had a rough time with removal.

Complimentary Wine — I love shades this dark! This beauty is a vampy and dark burgundy wine creme. Formula was a bit thin to apply, but built up okay with two coats. Depending on your application, a third may be needed.

VERDICT: I think these colors are a good mix for fall! Formula-wise, there weren’t any that really gave me an issue to apply. My must have favorites would definitely be Have Your Panettone and Eat it Too, My Italian is a Little Rust, Leonardo’s Model Color, and Fall-ing for Milan.

FYI — I had some color shifting issues to the natural light in the room, but I edited the pictures to keep the actual shades of each polish as true to hue as possible.
