WHO: Laverne Cox
WHERE & WHEN: 14th Annual ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood Awards on April 22, 2021
WEARING: Lavie by Claude Kameni (First Look), Sammy B (Second Look), Balmain (Third Look)
MY VERDICT: As the host of this year’s ceremony, Laverne wowed us in three bold looks. The Promising Young Woman actress first wore a figure-hugging Lavie by Claude Kameni printed gown in a strapless mermaid cut that featured a plunging neckline. I loved the rich shades of blue and poppy-orange — and I especially loved the choice of hairstyle.
This whole look was ace; beautiful, dramatic and perfectly suited for Laverne.
For her second look, Laverne wore the sold out Sammy B ‘Cameron’ long sleeve mesh dress with merrow stitch details and a vivid pattern of swirls in warm hues.
Once again, it worked. Laverne kept somewhat of the same hairstyle albeit pinned down a little more with a braided halo accent for an extra bit of drama.
For her third look, Laverne really played up shape, color and accessories!
She wore a brightly patterned Balmain Resort 2021 blazer and highlighted the shades of blue in the print with chunky statement jewelry in nearly the same hue.
Black finger-less gloves and a low ponytail provided the finishing touches.
I love how her hair gradually changed with each look but kept the overall style.
