WHO: Ava DuVernay
WHERE & WHEN: “Girls of the Sun” Cannes Film Festival Premiere on May 12, 2018.
WEARING: Alberta Ferretti dress, Giuseppe Zanotti shoes
MY VERDICT: Ahead of the “Girls of the Sun” premiere, Ava joined her fellow female members of the Cannes 2018 jury as they took the red carpet in silent protest; it was the #5050by2020 women’s march to raise awareness and call for change for the lack of female directors that have had their filmed honored during the 71-year long festival. The reason for the red carpet appearance was, I feel, more important than the outfits but I’m going to point out Ava’s pretty ensemble anyway.
The filmmaker selected an Alberta Ferretti Fall 2018 black long sleeve gown featuring a brilliant gold cross-hatch design. I liked this dress on the runway, but I adored it on Ava — and I give her two thumbs up for the belt, which gave the whole look a nice silhouette. A cool lobster roll loc twist hairstyle, complementing makeup, and a pair of Giueppe Zanotti pumps with a cool bolt heel provided the finishing touches.
