MY VERDICT: I had a few dresses in mind for Penélope to wear to the screening of her movie “Everybody Knows” at Cannes this year, but I didn’t anticipate her going vintage…and, quite frankly, I’m happy that she did because I really enjoyed this Chanel Spring/Summer 1996 Haute Couture lace gown on her. With the runways revisiting 90s fashion lately, why not take advantage by digging into actual archives to play with a look that never truly got a moment to shine. Penélope could have gone the glitzy route, but I think this was a solid choice emphasized by dazzling ruby earrings from her collaboration with Atelier Swarovski.
